Well it's been quite a while since my last post, rant, gripe or whatever you wanna call it. Well not much has changed, As a matter of fact, I got a strange feeling of Dejavu with all these indictments, campaigns, and of course the always present corruption.

Lets See what have we got here consisting of corruption:

a Hidalgo County Constable, a State Rep., a County Commissioner just to name a few.

Political Races and a case of Dejavu

For County Judge: Ramon Garcia vs Eloy Pulido, DEJAVU or what we call it in Spanish "CHINGADO OTRA VEZ?:

My take on this one: Ramon is a rich attorney way too busy for County day to day business, but I was under the impression that he would donate his County Judge Salary, when he was elected.
Eloy Pulido, the FULL TIME COUNTY JUDGE, Well with FULL TIME comes FULL PRICE which is way too expensive. Didn't Mr. Pulido apply for the Hidalgo County Risk Management Position under the Ramon Garcia Administration. Didn't Mr. Pulido also vow to never enter Politics again on the News when interviewed about him seeking the aforementioned Risk Management position? Wasn't Mr. Pulido also recorded by a former employee, where that employee got that tape to be played on the news? The recording had Mr. Pulido pist giving orders to some guy about firing an employee on the news, EMBARASSING TIMES for that man I'm guessing.

JD Salinas: Wow! I know theres a song called: 'Take the Money and Run' well JD took the Federal Job and RAN!

Edinburg Politics: Ok a little late, but hey I was busy. Joe and Gus ran and beseated Richard and Eddie Right? Then Richard makes a run for Mayor again against Joe, but Joe decides to bow out and retire. Gus along with Richard ran again, but this time unopposed. WOW! tell me it aint so, Did Edinburg run out of politicians? The whole thing was a hoot, which by the way I dont think Ochoa and Gus ever delivered any political promises.

Oscar Garza vs Joseph Palacios: Damn! Wheres the Education at the County Government? First of all Our County Commissioners have no Degrees, but yet they jacked up their salaries raping the taxpayers yet again, Joseph if elected will fit right in. I don't prefer either candidate, I'm just really upset that we couldn't come up with a BETTER CANDIDATE than these two. Garza got rich overnight in office. Palacios well, wink wink, I guess, I mean what other position does this family want? I mean c'mon they're the Jay Leno of the Valley. Think about it, they want it so Screw Garza, like NBC screwed over Conan O'Brien for Jay Leno. So let me get this straight, If you're boss gets indicted for some type of corruption and you're not just an employee low on the totem pole. Wasn't this guy in charge of Ms Handy's office? I mean when you're in Charge, you should know about the GOING ONS in the office as well as where the boss is at. I mean theres secretaries that know just about everything about their bosses (corruption, cheating, or whatever goes on in the office) Don't know about this race, it's just not a good one. I mean one of these guys is gonna get elected and again couldn't we have come up with a better candidate?

Kino Flores' former State Rep Position up for grabs

Sandra Rodriguez vs Sergio Munoz
Rodriguez almost unseated Flores the last go round. Munoz seems pretty ambitious to follow in his father's foot steps. I see Rodriguez taking this race over Munoz. Granted each has grassroots within the district, but I'm betting Rodriguez comes away with it.

HIDALGO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY

It's funny how That title has always been associated with Rene Guerra (Black and Yellow Political Signs)

Rene Guerra vs Alma Garza and some Former Judge Fidencio "I use a hand puppet in Court, cuz I can" Guerra. Well call it DEJAVU or "Chingado otra Vez," but I see Mr. Guerra leaving office on his own terms. Well if Ms Garza wins, ok well new blood heading that office. If Fidencio wins, well does that puppet go on salary? I mean will it make its way to the prosecutors office and get it's own cubicle too. If Mr. Guerra wins AGAIN, status quo, business as usual.

My Take on all the aforementioned Races:

Boring, No New Interesting Candidates to Choose From or Follow.
Limited Jobs, Crappy Economy, and we couldn't get better Candidates.

EDINBURG: THE RUINS...AND RECYCLING POLITICIANS...

Here we are again, same ol mayor back in office, no political opponents this time (No Money, Hard times, I guess even politicians are feeling the pinch) no city elections, and yet things are quiet on the home front. Here's my latest GRIPES:

*The RUINS at the NorthEast Corner of Jackson and Trenton?? What gives? How long does it take the city to get things moving with that Supposedly Alamo Draft House. I thought Joe Ochoa and his sidekick Gus Garcia were gonna pave the Edinburg Roads with Gold when they got elected. They made every political promise in the book from curing the sick to providing food for the starving.

*OK Haliburton left town, NOW WHAT? Whats that vacant property gonna be now? And what about the tail end of it by Van Week and the Train Tracks? When is that eye sore leaving?

*Whats with the 2,000 filled potholes on streets such as 12th, monmack, etc. C'mon Iraq's got better streets than that. Some black top, yellow paint and an industrial Iron and Wholla a new road.

*McAllen, Mission, and Even Pharr are getting major Commercial Corporations emerging in their neck of the woods, and I still hear crickets chattering over in our back yard... Whats the deal here, I mean C'MON, I know our commission loves them some First National Bank, but hey what about getting some Best Buy, Dillards, Macy's or the like? NAH JUST GET SOME MORE FNB BUILDINGS ALL OVER THE FREAKIN CITY. I mean that bank has got like a College campus setting coming soon, yet we still dont have some major corporate big wigs. JCPENNY? and Low END CRAP: Ross Tj max, wooo! Low end crap and all the dollar crappy stores you can stomach.

*The only fascinating leadership being displayed in this city, is the awesome growth of the UTPA CAMPUS. Damn, it even got our city hall to borrow some bricks and to make its new location, wow how original.

*And another major GRIPE here, whats with landing our New Edinburg High School right across the street from PSJA? I mean I think the Prison Look is way too old fashion, but hey if barb wire fencing is needed now a days to keep the poor student body in, oh well where's ENHS and JEHS' barb wire fencing. Or do they simply issue the student body ankle bracelets? I dont know Im just thinking out loud here.

*And whats with our old Mayor Ochoa running a "Rocky Balboa theme playing in the background" campaign to promise he was gonna make VIVA EDINBURG the new city motto? or some crap about making Edinburg great, and well he gave out quicker than a birthday candle.

So what does this City Have in store now, SAME OL SHIT JUST A DIFFERENT MAYOR? I mean what are residents really thinking, well I voted this dude out of office and went with the guy I voted out of office 3 years ago, BUT HEY since the world is GOING GREEN NOW and recycling everything from aluminum cans to Politicians, why not re-elect some ol crappy politician we voted out of office last election.....Yeah thats the ANSWER.... LETS RECYLCE OUR POLITICIANS TOO....GO GREEN! GO HOME! GO HAPPY! GET SCREWED ALL OVER AGAIN....YEAH VIVA EDINBURG, where everything is recycable even the The POLITICAL CRAP issued yearly.

BACK TO BEING ABLE TO SPEAK INTELLIGENTLY...

FINALLY! A U.S. President can engage a crowd of millions on National T.V. without having to trip on words like Guantanamo, Iraq, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the list goes on. Finally were back with having a President with a sharp I.Q. and General Knowledge of World Current Events. Obama started with the message of CHANGE and now it seems that people have taken a backseat to this Obama bus eagerly awaiting to see the changes occur for the better. Enough was enough with the old administration and the people sure came out in droves to declare their frustration on such a pittiful president and cloak and dagger administration that has had all the worse occur to our country on their watch....HEY it can't get any worse.

Now! as for County politics:

We got a stuffed coat in the County Judges office, we need some change their too. Bring back Ramon Garcia, at least he donated his earnings. And at this point the current administration seems to be so money hungry that it has managed to spend so much money on so much crap: New building for taxes, new County Judge office coming soon at your taxdollar expense, SUVs for everyone at the Sheriff's office. Shoot even the secretary their has a take home vehicle! Whats up with that? Can you say "Compadrismo at its Finest!"

ECISD POLITICS:

C'Mon now that makes like 0 and 6 for the Ochoa/Saenz duo campaign. I mean they had Chavana parading about his cronies all over town seeing what penny would drop in the wishing well. I wonder what he was wishing for? Oh well sadly the Palacios Team whipped on them pretty bad AGAIN! Oh well the old fogies held their seats as if there was any doubts. Hey ochoa / Saenz team, maybe the people of Edinburg are tired of you guys and really don't like you. And maybe just maybe they're nice to you for economical reasons, hint hint, your employees cough cough. They didnt seem to like Chavana's brother either, much less the alien looking Enriquez (no not because his eyes, but because he alienates himself from the people) If you wanna win an election, you gotta be able to mix it up with the people one on one. Now if you're just gonna hang on coat tails well then you're alienating yourself from the voters.

STATE POLITICS:

GEEE NO SUPRISE THERE HUH? NAZI TEXAS STILL VOTING REPUBLICAN.....WOW what a suprise....

CORRUPTION?

I can throw a rock either in the court house, county offices, city council meetings, or city hall and I can bet you that It'll hit someone involved in some type of corruption. How do Carmen or Gilbert Enriquez differ from that? Carmen NES vs. Gilbert Enriquez's million change orders to city hall or PD building, are you ready? on your mark, get set go! start the comparison...

I am not gone, just nothing NEW out their worth going on the record about. Its the same ol factions doing the same ol politics.

Ochoa going up against The Palacios and losing most of the time.

First National Bank going up against Lone Star National Bank. now they have like 50 branches just in Edinburg alone. HA! just joking on that many locations in one town, but they're spreading quicker than an STD and just as painful.

Saenz going up against well anyone for any political position, Will someone please give this guy some type of position that is appointed elected or just voluntarily, his DWI was never really meant to be, well so he says.....what a dufus....

Our County Judge? Republican Today? Democrat Yesterday? Aggie forever!!!! What an OXYMORON.....HA! I think they need to label his Hand with a sharpie as to what Party he pertains to.

Jesse Contreras v. Danny Rios for the 449th, WOW! how that result happened is totally amazing me at this point. Let me see, people in the Hidalgo County area voted in a Democrat Judge candidate over a Republican......WOW! thats just one knee slapper....I guarantee you that I now feel totally represented having this Honorable man sitting as judge,,,,HA! I believe the strait ticket still exists and that is what most did, overlooking an honorable candidate in Rios.

"IT'S OVER?" YEP! YOU SAID IT LADY... The Fat Lady Singing here in Hidalgo County is hardly what it seems to be. For those who don't follow the expression, The fat lady singing just means if the search for some stability in our Hidalgo County Politics. Now, does this new administrator bring tricks, smoke & mirrors, and the the like? Who Knows? Time will tell. Two Elections administrators down already, we're yet to see how this one fills out. But insiders are full of joy that an ignorant one will be at the helm yet once again. From the News Clip, Ms Ramon, stated that she barely started studying the Elections Process, so YIPPY! We have a Career switch for the third time NOW from Teacher to Banker to Elections Administrator and maybe the third time is the CHARMER for Ms Ramon. I'm not blaming Ms Ramon for applying, I'm kinda upset at the caliber of choices that are consistantly rammed down the voters' mouths when it comes to public officials.

A Clip from THE MONITOR just proves that people aren't just whispering, but actually dumbfounded about the latest BLATANT ATTEMPT AT those in POWER Keeping a BIG FAT LID ON IT. C'mon with this new supposedly best qualified candidate is nothing more than what JJ Rodriguez was in Edinburg, she is the likely candidate to go with the flow as they say in politics. She's less likely to "Rock The Boat" Insiders describe how those politicos in West Hidalgo County stressed that they wanted Ms Ramon in and that was it. So of course our Loyal County Judge, obliged by casting his vote for this candidate that has really no business in such as position that was supposedly posted state wide. You mean to tell me, that nobody from San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, or other Texas Parts had no better qualifications? We actually found this Teacher/banker here under a rock? Damn! The LUCK we have here in Hidalgo County.

Considering the embarrassing mess that Teresa Navarro, Hidalgo County's former elections administrator, has found herself in and has dragged the county into, it would seem reasonable to assume that the powers that be would have wanted to choose the very best candidate possible to replace her.
Well, the administrator named Wednesday hardly appears, at least at first glance, to quite fulfill that seemingly reasonable expectation.
The new elections administrator - who supposedly was unanimously chosen by the county commissioners and the county elections commission - is Yvonne Ramón, who will come into the job with absolutely no experience in dealing with elections.
How, exactly, it was determined that she was the "best qualified" of the candidates appears to be a total mystery. In fact, she seems to meet very few of even the "minimum qualifications" that Hidalgo County Judge J.D. Salinas set forth to be considered for the post.
The county judge himself listed the "minimum qualifications" on his Web site, http://www.judgejd.com/:
"A four (4) year college degree from an accredited university or college in public or business administration or political science and five (5) years of progressive managerial and supervisory experience; including four (4) years of demonstrated and effective experience in an elections related area. The administrator must be a registered voter of the state (Sec. 31.034 Election Code). May not be a candidate for public office, hold a public office, or hold an office or position in a political party. Other restrictions apply. (See Sec. 30.035 of the Election Code). Expert knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures of department and related functional areas is expected from the incumbent."
Ramón' holds bachelors and masters degrees from University of Texas Pan-American, but neither is in one of the fields proscribed in Salinas' minimum qualifications list. On her application for the post, Ramón says her bachelor's degree is in education, sociology and English and her master's is in educational leadership.
Although it is likely that she has voted in elections, that does not come anywhere near filling the stated requirement of "four (4) years of demonstrated and effective experience in an elections related area."
The funny thing is that among the four finalists for this spot, at least two met the minimum qualifications, including the elections-related experience. They, however, were passed over for the job. Why?
One of Ramón's major qualifications stressed during Wednesday's announcement is that she is the assistant principal at Fossum Elementary School. Someone, however, failed to mention that she was named to that post at the brand new school - which has yet to open - on June 8, meaning she has never even functioned as the assistant principal in any sort of active setting there.
Although we hope we are wrong and Ramón turns out to be a fantastic elections administrator, this appears to be yet another instance of Hidalgo County governmental business as usual.

Blogger: King-X, FRIEND OR FOE?

I've been away enjoying some R & R and I come back to read my blog with some interesting entries by one that goes by king-x. Now I will reserve my comments on this character until I further read and analyze his/her work. Now now now, I know for sure this person doesn't really write to please anyone in particular so I can respect that. Is this person out to reveal some coruption? Is this person on a one way track to sabotage some political careers? Is this person afiliated with any faction, political network, or family? or is this person just hell bent on just unleashing revenge on some old employers of the past? Well I don't have the answers to these questions, so again I will reserve my opinion about King-x for the time being. My take on this person for now is that if they want to reveal corruption that is cheating the taxpayers, then full steam ahead. But if theirs some political agenda behind their rhetoric to benifit a campaign well then, YAHN! NEXT! I must say, there seems to be some originality in their perspective so far, and it might not be long before they begin a campaign against me. But with every blog comes a series of free thinking expressions illustrated to drive some controversies regardless of what side of the tracks you live on. Now as for trying to guess identities of bloggers well thats just pretty stupid if you ask me, it takes away from the sport of free thinking, free writing, and most of all free expression. Yes yes, people get carried away with some french on these blogs and can hold back a little if they just worded their thoughts a bit differently, but hey I'm not one to judge and am guilty of letting loose from time to time. So bring it on mr. king-x and lets see what you got in the goody bag. I'm interested in knowing more about your SECRETS REVEALED. I guess the pic of the unknown masked magician that got popular after a series of televised appearances on fox recieved so much praise that even that secret revealer was revealed at some point. As bloggers, We may not always agree on certain issues, but I can RESPECT THE TRUTH wherever it may surface.

HIDALGO COUNTY ELECTIONS ADMINISTRATOR CORRUPTED?

People are actually shocked that the Hidalgo County Elections Administrator went from earning a salary in the upper $30,000's to $80,000 a year from the year 2000 to 2008, WELL DO YOU KNOW WHY SHE EARNS THAT MUCH? Just look at the cartoon picture and caption, think about it and draw your own judgment. This County Government is by far the MOST EXPENSIVE GOVERNMENT in our Hidalgo County Government's History.

Commissioners gave themselves hefty pay raises.
Sheriff got a raise and has his children on county payroll as well with fat salaries with boggus job titles to add insult to injury. Wheres THE O.W.L.S. on that one?
County Judge got new building, getting new office, and a hefty salary.

TOTAL TAX WASTE!
I HOPE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENES SOON.

STALLED PROJECTS AGAIN?!!!

City hall completion pushed back again

EDINBURG - Nails jut out of the latte-colored walls in City Manager J.J. Rodriguez's office, tucked in the back of City Hall.
Rodriguez took the pictures off of his office walls weeks ago. He has boxes everywhere.
Everyone in Edinburg City Hall has boxes everywhere, he said.
Staff is packed, ready to go - with no place to go.
City officials are growing restless with the continuous delays in their new City Hall's construction.
Rodriguez said they are "getting very, very pushy with the contractor," but the city council has approved two construction deadline extensions.
Enriquez Enterprises was supposed to have had the building ready to occupy in December, according to the original contract approved in April 2006.
Then the council approved an extension in August that pushed the deadline back to February of this year.
It approved an additional extension in May that stamped June 20 as the date the majority of construction should be finished.
Rodriguez uses phrases like "expressed serious concerns" and "somewhat of a little uncomfortable" and "getting really impatient" when he talks about recent conversations he's had with the contractor overseeing the new City Hall's construction just one block away from the current one.
Rodriguez said the contractor is having "a little bit of trouble" with subcontractors over the "decorative end of the process."
Enriquez Enterprises Vice President Gilbert Enriquez said changes to the project have continuously pushed back the final move-in date. He said there are more changes waiting for council approval that would push the date past June 20.
In fact, Enriquez said the building may not be ready to occupy until July's end.

Heres my question:

If Ochoa and Gus were suppose to get "STALLED PROJECTS" Completed, whats with the City Hall and Police Station buildings? The former mayor and councilmember were voted OUT 2 years ago, whats the hold up now? CAN YOU SAY "BULLSHIT CAMPAIGN SLOGANS?"

The aforementioned two are no more real than silicone implants.

Country Clubs, Golf Courses, Secret Societies, The Presidency, Politics, Wealth, Media, Entertainment etc were all Dominated by Whites at some point in History. The Presidency being the Most coveted position in our Nation now being sought after by an African American and actually has the upper hand in this race: popularity wise and economically. Obama, Oprah, and Tiger are just a few to mention that have helped bring down some racist walls in our country. Soon we will have our very first African American President and that will echo an eternity. Soon all children will be able to dream of being president one day. Thank you Obama and Obama supporters, the day of "just" White America is coming to an end. We have capable people of all ethnicity to make a difference in our world, I'm not against any one race, but I am against ignorant racism, categorizing or labeling. Obama is just the tip of the iceberg as to just how people can rise above it.

DOWN WITH MAYOR OCHOA'S "YES" BOYS

BRAVO! Mayor Ochoa's latest attempt to Recruit and shove into office a couple of "YES" Boys has DRASTICALLY FAILED YET AGAIN! I am happy to say that enews and company haven't had their way since Ochoa and Gus took office. We here at The Political Ring have been at oposite ends with those goofs at enews for some time already. We Predicted

1. Aaron PENA over Eddie SAENZ in The State Rep. race.
2. Charlie Espinoza over David Chavana in the J.P. race.
3. Gene Espinoza over Yes Boy #1, Leonel Guerrero
4. Alma Garza over Yes Boy #2, Johnny Rodriguez
5. We've also predicted on the National Level, stating that Obama would get the nomination over Hillary and well it seems to be headed in that direction.

So if enews wants to place a wager on the next city or school board election, We're GAME! The Hate campaign has no home here in Edinburg. People have been over heard saying that Gus and Ochoa are next on the cutting block, don't know how true that is, but we're not speculating on those races as of yet. Stay tuned we will make our predictions prior to those elections as well. CONGRATS are in order for Mr. Gene Espinoza and Ms Alma Garza for their victory in getting Re-Elected. Now before people begin to peg me as a one sided blogger, here's some advice for those that want change in the Mayor's race.....Get some new blood, one with a fine history, not one of those here today gone tommorrow type of people. A woman perhaps. We are in dire need of some new direction in this town and I'm sorry to say, but the "O" gots to GO! Thats right Ochoa gots to go. Our Economic situation here in this city has ran dead last amongst the Mission, Mcallen, Pharr, and Edinburg area. A woman the likes of that President of UTPA, Dr. Blandina Cardenas, NOT her, but someone with that type of history and credentials who's got roots and history in this Community. Enough with the "O" or Richard Garcia, we need someone to get our city to the next level, not someone who's gonna continue some GRUDGE MATCH with the other side. A woman can come in and get this city straight and unite the council. We need Economic growth the likes of McAllen. This city still remains a bedroome town and that my friends is UNACCEPTABLE! What has our new Mayor done lately for us? Here's the answer to that question: RECRUIT RECRUIT RECRUIT some naive "YES" BOYS that are going to be loyal to him and will do what he asks, just ask Gus Garcia. Gus gots two new vehicles since being elected, I guess those kickbacks are kicking in, well maybe or is it merely coincidence? You decide. We're yet to see an improvement done for this city by Gus and the "O". And I challenge any Ochoa or Gus supporter to come on here and clarify what exactly these two have done for you the taxpayer.

"I'm sick and tired of the delays of the old administration and we need to complete these stalled projects now!" That quote was that of the newly Re-elected Mayor right? Years later, wullah! we've got everything complete in our neck of the woods right? WRONG! C'mon Ochoa saved the Elder's tax freeze, hooray! He gave all the adult daycare centers new bingo cards, he loaded up the so called political strategists aka politiqueras with plenty of money, and all he did was take his old look and style and grew some hair. Well if it isn't putting lipstick on a pig and calling it anything but a pig. So who's next now on the ol recruitment list for our enamored mayor who's done so much for our city? He's managed to recruit the likes of political novice Gus Garcia and we've seen what a fine questionairre he's been as of late, not to mention mr. ochoa's marionnette dolls don't finish there. NO Sir, he's got a few strings he pulls over on the school board too, Robert Pena too has a few strings at Mr. Ochoa's disposal. Now we have a fresh duo of yes men willing to attach those strings up to Mr.Ochoa and make a fine Marionette cortet the bunch of YES yelling choir boys. You see, from what I gather is that Mr. Ochoa and his group of lets call them "YES" has a nice ring to it. The Group YES, or Operation YES, or The YES Boys. Either name makes for a good laugh right? Well not exactly, the last laugh is on our behalf, yep you guessed it, they're really getting the last laugh on all this. We are the taxpayers that are allowing such tactics to take place in the first place. So are we to blame? you bet we are. Freshly annointed newbies will attempt to unseat those council members now in office for reasons well, WHO REALLY CARES right. I mean cmon its Mr. Ochoa and his faction coming for those seats, so does he really need to give us any reasons as to why who chooses to unseat anyone or take control of the city and school governing entities? Nope not at all, he's got plenty of family, a hate smut campaigning blog, and plenty of favors to call in for his personal gain. So you and I really have no say in this up coming election or do we? Well its no mystery on just how much this administration has failed to get new projects done, started or even moved on. But is that all apart of a political strategy? Of course, do you remember the first line of this blog, well that was ochoa and gus stating their claim as to why they were the men for the job, because of stalled projects many believed to have an ochoa hand in. Now who's to blame, well thats neither here nor there, so with all the accusations aside in regards to the old administration well out the door two went and now you would of thought that things were to be worked out so much smoother right? well name me a project mr. ochoa and gus have given life to? completed? name anything these two have done in the years since being elected? The veteran councilman which most know already speaks his mind and is less likely to kneel or be a YES boy like ochoa's boy"no"wonder. Now am I wrong? well time will tell, but this I assure you if you research ochoa's decade stay on the council and take any one term of that and compared it to the previous mayor record, one with economical experience will clearly note that both differ significantly and that one raised the bar on our city's infastructure aesthetics. Lets base our votes on proof not feelings or personal relations. One mayor gave us one failed project after another and had the audacity to return only to get elected and stay put. Now is he waiting to see if his newly minted yes crooners get elected? You bet your sweet taxes he is. You see in order for this cock to rule the hen house his elder veteran outspoken councilman at some point adversary needs to be sent packing along with the only female on the council to make room for You guessed it, FOR SURE VOTES IN HIS FAVOR. Then Ochoa will have no adversary, but one who most will already know to sway in this unbalanced council. Now do you think I have an ounce of animosity towards the new boys coming to drum up votes for their boss? NO not at all, but like the old saying goes, "I don't want your house, I want the land it sits on." Ochoa can care less about these 2 boys he's recruited, rather he wants their loyal vote. Is that a sad scenario? No, its politics and politics has a way of making some people who are in the system a great reward. So for those skeptics out their or loyal ochoa followers that bother to read this and are in serious denial or in disgust, relax I leave you to research for yourself on the many failed attempts and projects your enamored mayor made in his reckless political past. And it is also a fact that he's made no secret as to RECRUIT simple minded kids that allow him their vote in exchange for carrying their political campaign. You see most of these simple minded boys have no clue about politics, they're business people who at best have families in this city, but its the more savvy life long politician in ochoa that affords them a political faction, so in return they remain loyal. Again AT BEST THESE BOYS HAVE EXTENDED FAMILIES IN THIS CITY, but the political ties come from OCHOA. The strings, cables, pullies, and hoists are being assembled as we speak and the show tickets are being printed, we shall witness how well the marionette cortet performs with ochoa at the helm. Win or lose, you can bet Ochoa will still be going around recruiting the likes of YES boys or shall I say men to fulfill his political aspirations.

Well clearly men can rise in an uproar and root for any team they wish nowadays with clear knowledge of their favorite teams' forward by name or number. I mean really who's Cheryl Swoops? Who's Michael Jordan? The 2nd question is obvious. Well am I comparing Obama to the NBA? NO! And spare me the racist remarks. The pictures above represent Basketball and two leagues comprised of superstars that play the game RIGHT? YES! But do they both air on National Television? Of Course. The NCAA also just had their Final Four: Mens National Champions Kansas over Memphis and Womens National Champions Tennessee over Stanford, both very memorable games. "Damn! Did you see that Kansas shot in the final game?" Of course some guys are howling, yelling, or even high fiving each other regardless of the school or geographic location it represents, its just damn good basketball and it makes great headlines. That Kansas/Memphis game will be talked about for quite some time. Why because Kansas hasn't had a championship in quite a while? NOT exactly, its just in our Male DNA to speak of those types of games to some degree. I dont know if you can guess where Im going with this blogging at this point but hang tight I'll begin to make sense of the Headline in a few sentences. Is the NBA far more superior than the WNBA? Maybe, more marketable, more star recognition, more history etc. right? Well not exactly, its the following it has. You see the following means alot in many ways, Men love the game of basketball and so do women dont get me wrong, but its also the women that enjoy watching the NBA over the WNBA you see. Now does that mean women should only watch the WNBA? NO Not at all, but they probably have more history of following it for arguments sake. SO, getting to the Headline Clinton vs Obama, is this a Black vs. White? Democrat vs Democrat? Political Ideology? To War or Not to War? Economy? Or Whatever Bush Screwed up? NO! Its as simple as WNBA vs NBA... NOW when you figure out why the NBA is far more Popular than the WNBA then you'll understand why Obama is far more popular than Clinton, reasons why he leads in the POPULAR VOTE....But hey Gore won the Popular vote against Bush and we saw where that got him huh? Well some analysts analyze daily as to what Clinton or Obama can do to garner the nomination and plenty of finger pointing has been done, but the sad truth is that our Country is a Sexist Country that lags behind culturally than its European counterparts to some extent, NOW does that mean I gotta LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT? HA! Fat chance, Theirs no place Id rather live, but Im calling a spade a spade. We tend to be sexist and the proof is in the pudding. NBA is far more popular than its female Counterpart. The NCAA final four Mens had a far greater attendance and television viewers than the NCAA final four Womens. Why Basketball? Is it because Obama is black? NO, but their are no Womens NFL, MLB, or NASCAR. Soccer in the olympics maybe or volleyball in the olympics as well, but Men seem to garner the most popularity. We've had 43 men run this free world for quite some time and a new universal face will garner the popularity of the rest of the world for once in quite a while. You see corporate America isnt kindly welcomed throughout most of the world due to the workings of one man's rule, BUSH, so now they need to quite the riots with a more universally known face of peace while corporate America will be accepted to run business as usuall. You see other countries dont know us Americans, they percieve us to be what our Presidents are. What can be further from truth. A country's people reflect its leadership and we need to be percieved as culturally tolerant, peaceful, and united and I guess they figure that Obama is that voice and face to get our Corporate entities' feet back in the door of other countries. Right about now its about MIGHT makes RIGHT with BIG OIL. Politics for one has taken a back seat to Popularity. Are they one in the same? Not exactly, you see in order to be able to apply policy, one must know about policy domestically and abroad. Now whos got that experience. And if that isnt enough, how does one person tie in so many Egos in Washington to set policy. Yeah that word POLICY will be one overused word in the next Administration for one reason: Too much policy has been written due to the change of so many laws due to 911. Nevermind the policy jargon, Laws, day to day operations on the Hill, Senate, or all over the world, We simple minded Americans just wanna watch Sports dominated by men and hope to make our choices in politics using the same methods we make our final four brackets, (heads or tales flip of a coin) Again we're simple minded men that have a history of being Ruled by men, being entertained by television and sports. And if sports and politics are dominated by men, then thats what it shall be for the next decade and so on. Our Bible, our religion, our History has been dominated by men and a woman is merely made of a man's rib right? Well that seems to be our common way of thinking as has been for most part of our history. And that is why I compared the WNBA to the NBA, and the headline read Clinton vs Obama, because this election will be decided by OUR HISTORY. WE AS A PEOPLE ARE SEXIST. Clinton has the same chance of surpassing Obama's popularity as does the WNBA surpassing the NBA 's Popularity. Is that an unfair comparison? You bet it is, but that is the same measuring stick they're using to compare these two candidates. Its not about knowledge or experience, its simpler than that, its about WHO DO I LIKE....Not to be President, Governor, Pastor, King, or Queen, NOPE its just WHO DO WE LIKE...Im sure many of you had that one teacher that no matter what, students just didnt like em, or that one student that nobody cared to associate with. Yep, we're that type of creature. Our history, literature and cinema has warped our mentallity into thinking that their will always be a love story with the Protaganist beating the Antagonist in the end. The Press has earmarked its Protaganist and its Antagonist this election and people whole heartedly have been bitten by the Polly-wood-itics and have chosen their role in this historical election. How will you decide in the booth as to who you like? Britney Spears song, "Oops I did it again, " is blazing in the background and people are at an awe again on how another former politician took to the good ol mug shot on the local news. This time it was Former City Councilman Eddie Johnson. Boy how many does that make now? It seems that this county got the Hollywood bug, meaning approval ratings go way up when you have a brush with the law. Well it worked for Matthew McConauhe, Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and now our very own politicians. Maybe he'll run for office again and win, now that he's gotten his 15 minutes of fame. I saw his mug shot on the News, he didnt seem to have a care in the world with that big ol grin from ear to ear, Which brings me to one conclusion: Why do most people taking a mug shot all of sudden get a serious face and fail to smile. Granted its not the most honorable picture you'll ever take, but it is the one that will be viewed the most next to your myspace mug. I can rant along about this Johnson fellow till I'm blue in the face, but the thing is he aint seeking office nor attacking the integrity of those who pulled him over. So that being said, it really doesnt matter what I have to say about some individual's private life, but its just when they decide to seek public office they are to be held to some standard. Had this young man been in public office when this occurred, I'd be picketing via blog for his resignation. enews has tried to tie this man to other political factions and bank, but in reality, are we suppose to screen those we socialize with? Are we suppose to run background checks on people that choose to be our friends or co-workers? If any of that were true, imagine how discredited we'd be when old friends from high school ended up in jail for any type of offenses. I am not one to sit there and say, geez you remember that guy that was on our baseball team, well he's in jail now, how embarrassing to us would that really be? To each their own. Who's Footing the Bill for Recent Wildfires?

Reported by Ryan Wolf

Fuel for the body. Fuel for the trucks. Both man and machine are running on empty after nearly two and a half days of non-stop firefighting in north Hidalgo County.
But with containment at 85 percent the question now remains: Who's footing the bill?
"I wouldn't even be able to put a number on how much this is going to cost us... but it is going to be a sizeable amount," said Hidalgo County's Emergency Management Coordinator Tony Peña.
As many as 500 people have helped to battle the enormous wild fire on the local, state and federal levels.
Peña says everything must be documented from agencies involved, manpower hours, gas, cost of repairs, food-you name it.
The information is crucial Peña says for any kind of state or federal reimbursement.
"We'll base it on everyone's involvement," he said. "There's formulas involved, mathematical formulas and FEMA and the Governor's office help us work all that out."
Hidalgo County has already been declared a disaster area.
About 26,000 acres have burned, four homes destroyed and about 40 head of cattle lost.
Peña says the county is eligible to receive a Fire Management Assistant Grant (FMAG) through the state from FEMA.
"We are looking at getting up to 75 percent reimbursement on some assets used," he said.
It's partial repayment for efforts to combat wildfires threatening to become major disasters.
And with no lives lost so far, the county appears to have won.
Texas State Plan:
Again, Hidalgo County stands to recoup about 75 percent from the federal government.
Governor Rick Perry says it falls short with some 216 counties in the state suffering 1 million total acres of wildfire damage.
He's urging the government to pay 100 percent.

Now you may ask yourself whats with the picture of blindfolded people in a line, well thats an easy answer you see (PUN INTENDED), that much of the politics, rhetoric, ridicule, finger pointing, and drama usually falls on deaf ears and the blind loyalists keep the fire burning for the candidate of their choice. REGARDLESS of ISSUES!

DISTRICT 40? Saenz! Pena! ones wrong ones right! Etc. etc. etc. enews tries trashing everyone not on their list of candidates that pay them and well everyone goes against enews in return. Voters are herded and none are educated on the platforms each candidate stands on, nor are they informed about the candidates credentials, success, or work history. Now if you wanna tear down a candidate, then well start a blog site and begin finger pointing daily.

Its sad to say that the majority of voters that side with a certain faction can care less about issues, political affiliations, or mistakes on a candidates' part. Family sticks with family, factions stick together, and in the end if you're IN with the winning candidate, you'll get the job, contract, and a good return on your investment.

Ok we got a RECYCLED MAYOR back in office along with a new councilman to boot and the results have been well less than mediocore. WHY? Under the previous Mayor, the city was seeing New City Hall, Sub Station for the Fire Dept., Police HQ, Water Plant, City Library, and a slew of new corporate representation vis a vis strip malls here and there. NOW, we got what? The New outfit in office pranced around preaching that the previous administration stalled on projects, now well the irony of things. Corporate entities here in Edinburg are now STALLING ON PROJECTS on TRENTON RD. HA HA HA! who's getting the last laugh on that one? Are the Recycled Mayor and his boy wonder prancing around that project site yelling through there bull horn about how stalled project wont get them Re-elected? Of course not, because those projects arent related to city government or at least thats what Im told. So the truth is what we were told on these last elections were really a pile of garbage, all the hooting and hollering were nothing more than a few words baiting the citizens to get elected. I see some change in this city though, let me tell you the change I have seen since the new administration took over:

I see Mr. Ochoa's family prospering very well, his nephew which I'm sure you guys know has done rather well with his many business ventures here in this city. This city has managed to let them convert a family oriented establishment in the parking lot adjacent to a cinema theater to convert into a BAR, now how that sits with the citizens is well up to you to decide. NOW theres no law prohibiting such change, and as long as that bar has the name GRILL by the name BAR, they can declare it a family establishment right? WHATEVER, its an adult BAR SETTING with a bunch of minors running around during the weekends, now that Friday night football isnt around. Dont believe me, just drive by there Friday nights. A herd of children gathering in and around that area with heavy traffic. Wait and hope that day of a drunk driver heading out of that establishment knocking a minor pedestrian over. Hope it doesnt come to that, but The combination of an adult bar with a theater that has plenty of minors running around its parking area makes for a bad situation.

I also see Mr. Ochoa's buddies making a run back to "Lets GET RICH-AGAINS-VILLE" ala using city functions at our establishment for profits. Any city event should be held in city venues ie. Edinburg Auditorium, Fountain Park, Activity Center, etc. you get the hint here, but instead they're being held at none other than Mr. Ochoa's buddy's bar, named the Social Club. WHY? Profit my friends.

Another Mr. Ochoa BUDDY making a 2nd run for The Dist.40 State Rep, same ol tactics, same ol ensemble of people with him, and same ol sleeze campaign. Whats different you ask, well his buddy the mayor is now well mayor and maybe his buddy's campaign will rub off some luck on him too, being that the sleeze campaign happen to sidetrack voters on mr. ochoa's campaing. FOOL THEM AGAIN AGAIN AND AGAIN, till they believe you right mr. mayor. Make them old folks believe you're the second coming and take them to the voting booths yourself.

Mr. Gus Garcia, well I really dont see this young man doing much of anything for the city, but I do see him sporting a Brand New Land Rover and is helping a high school buddy get ready to make a run for office here in our very own city. YEP, thats right the Ochoa political machine is at work again, recruiting young YES MEN all over again. Like I mentioned before, we have a RECYCLED MAYOR with the same OLD TRICKS UP HIS SLEEVE ALL OVER AGAIN. Well heres the plan for the Recycled Mayor:

Getting the Veteran Councilman out of office with a brand new YES MAN: HOW you SAY? Well they've Recruited some Nerdy Guy they can trust names Lonnie Guerrero, whos name well really doesnt mean anything around town NOW, but In a few weeks its gonna be everywhere that he's the MAN and that Gene Espinoza is the Wrong man for reasons A-Z and there BLOG THUGS are gonna be trying to DESTROY MR. ESPINOZA our seasoned Veteran Councilman, whom as we have seen on this blog, will come at you and prove his point and stand firm on an array of issues. Now Im not here defending Mr. Espinoza, God knows he's done that on many occasions and we dont always agree. But I can respect that he defends his issues and opinions. But the voters will get this new YES MAN, LONNIE GUERRERO SHOVED DOWN THERE THROWTS come election time in Edinburg. NOW THATS NOT POLITICS, its a GANG TACTIC used for TERRITORIAL PREMESY.

If Mr. Ochoa and Mr. Garcia want to decieve the voters this time again, let them please tell us what they have done for our city, hence the reason i stated in the beginning what the campaign slogans were for the two. WHATS CHANGED? WHATS IMPROVED FOR THE CITY?

Hoopla has been abuzz about the latest polls, debates, spin, articles, ads, etc. but nobody is making predictions. So here at The Political Ring, we'd like to take this moment to lay out some comments about some interesting races, candidates, political scenarios and of course some gripes about the going ons in our very own backyard Edinburg.

1st the Gripes in Edinburg, and this is to WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
1. East Side of Town at Night gots the parking lot at the Plaza where Bealls is at pitch dark, lets light em up there boys. Nice renovation, but I think some light would make it not only safer but more appealing to the eye.
2. East Side needs more aesthetics, come one those delapidated 1920's businesses still rock i guess, but come on, those business just west of El Fenix Bakery need a make over, come on keep up with the times. Clean up or shut down, its that simple.
3. Alamo Draft House? cricket cricket cricket.....enuff said
4. Seems to me that only Rodz, Los Lagos and Social Club get all the buzz now a days, any reason why? Anybody have an answer to this?
5. City Hall, Come on now, the Pyramids in Egypt got built quicker.....whats the deal? Have any projects been finished. Supposedly the new administration was gonna beef it up and make Edinburg look like beverly hills or something like it. Again, Cricket cricket cricket....

Now to the political comments
Clinton v Obama: You got A white woman vs a black man, and some people see it as just that and thats sad to say. But it seems Latinos are having a really big problem electing a black man, dont believe me, research the numbers up to this point.

Prediction: Hillary and Bill get the nomination, Obama will be President some day, just not this time around. He's young, eloquent and sounds alot like one of those charismatic pastors that has you attending his services reaching into your pockets just giving whatever dollar amount he asks for, for the church building fund....Great Audio, but need more action. I think Obama is a political superstar, but do we really wanna miss him? Think about it, JFK, RFK, MLK etc all shared the same style and eloquence of that of obama and all died horrific deaths. Just think of the National Chaos that would erupt if someone took a shot at obama in office? NFL NBA MLB ENTERTAINMENT AFRICAN AMERICAN WOULD NOT STAND FOR IT, and would cause a severe blow to our market. Sounds Shallow? Well open your eyes, they even took a shot at The Republican Ronald Reagan. They took out Pakistan Opposition in Pakistan, they took out opposition in Russia (spy drugged on national news), they've taken out beloved icons here in our country too. Obama getting the nomination may sound great, but Black vs white just aint gonna work this coming election. Democrats may like the idea of change, but in political reality, this problem we're in doesnt fix in the next 4 years and thats the sad truth.

McCain: Dude! they this ol fighter pilot/p.o.w. 5'6 ish still gots some fire or conservatives just dont want model mitt mormon in the white house. Republicans tend to vote on tradition, its like who did they vote for 4 to 8 years ago and well they repeat it year after year. They stick to there ideology. Is McCain the best the republicans can do? No, but he'll just have to do for now, McCain thought his career was over, but he's seemed to pull through. If Romney was Methodist, Romney would be the Republican nominee hands down.

Prediction: McCain/Huckabee ticket : Neocons for McCain as Pres./Bible thumping Conservatives for Huckabee as V.P., Tickets screams best of both worlds in the Republican Ideology. Huckabee can win the south for McCain. This Duo will outdo Obama. A season Statesman and former governor will trample the Junior Senator..

Prediction: If Obama gets the nomination: We're looking at a Republican in office for the next 4 years. Dont get me wrong, I think Obama has some good politics and Hillary lacks his charisma among the voters of all genders or race, but I just wouldnt wanna lose the race for the white house. WAR DOGS fight better under WAR CONDITIONS politically speaking, Hillary can hang against McCain and The Republican machine, because Bill knows the old school political machines in washington. Bill can rip into McCain all the way to Bush. And I dont see Obama being Able to do that. Fairy Tales dont exist in DC, its a dog eat dog world and the democrats may be wearing milk bone underwear if they aint careful.

Well we're back, as if anyone really missed us huh? But we've heard some things and some of those things were sounding so far fetched that we just had to come back from our short sabbatical to report about the bull and the fairy godmother being hired by none other than, yep you guessed correctly: Mr. Eddie "nope not too drunk to drive sir" Saenz. It seems lately that this candidate keeps getting caught between a rock, a dwi and a hard place or jail huh?

Don't know who was responsible for The Edinburg Not-So Amusing Parade, but the illustrated photo depicts a rather borish looking parade as seen above. I mean we had #2 council members participate and a few elementary schools, 3 cop units, 5 fire trucks and a few ambulances whaling and deafening sirens. Oh and they happend to bunch up the high school bands together for kicks, I guess. I thought the whole thing was a last minute patch of "JUST PUT WHATEVER TOGETHER" kinda deal." I feel that our community could do much better. What is the city doing to better the entertainment in our parades? That is exactly what vultures do, they're scavengers looking for carcasses with no life. They prey on the dead, how macaub you say? Exactly my notion, regardless of how morbid this practice is, the goons over at the enews' nest consider this sort of scavenger tactic real work. Well bravo for them, they have learned to survive on scavenging off DEAD things. I guess that explains their choice in issues. So what seems to be the problem now with our city council or city administration? Back when Richard Garcia was mayor it was the city jail dragging on, now we have our mall strip and the Undrafted-House not seeing its fair share of money or Finance. Cmon council, if Tony Romo got his Contract extended, shouldn't this Un-Drafted House get its fair share of budget to be completed? All jokes and pundits aside, this type of lothargic process seems to have become the norm in this little town of "you scratch my back, while i fill your pockets with wink wink best bids contracts." Let me guess Enriquez Enterprises is going to come in and do some change-work orders and those in on it are going to vote for such debacle. Wait a Minute, hold the phone, isnt that the ol quick switch-aroo that happend last time with the jail. Out went Velasco and In came Enriquez, boy someone on that council sure does love that arrangement. I mean the process is getting all too familiar and lame. I just wish more citizens took part in voting. I wish we had an O.W.L.S. group here in Edinburg rather than just POLITIQUERAS looking for the MORDIDAS ala MEXICO STYLE during Political Season. I just wish our community would take there political b.s. to the next level already and get rid of the so called "taquaches" you know the possums that are so far underneath EVERYTHING IN CITY GOVERNMENT that when they finally get thrown out they look like the sweaty soaked possums. It's stupid to continue to excite the public about new establishments coming into our community only to be HALTED BECAUSE SOME IDIOT ISN'T GETTING THERE CUT! I'm sure some elected or public official will declare some eloquently worded speech or excuse about Finance, bonds, budget or some crappy ol excuse as to why they cant reach a completion in such projects. Look at McAllen is what I'll say, where in the Heck do they have such problems. Our city hall, jail, and now this mall is so slow to get completed, I guess the tacuaches are digging deep making sure they're getting there cut, contract bids, or kick backs. This process is getting old, lame, and embarrassing. And the sad part is that these same sin beruencas still try getting re-elected, why you ask, because the majority of la raza get catered to during the political season ONLY! Then its back to getting under all the government stuff for the tacuaches.

Heres my advice to our city administration and political officials:

Go to McAllen with a pen and tablet and take some much needed notes on how to complete projects, open a real airport, and enrich your community. Oh and one more important thing tell them to teach you guys how to make your city SINGLE MEMBER DISTRICTS, I mean lets get real here almost all the politicians usually live in the same areas. When was the last elected official from la llelera (the fridge) Lull TX whatever you wanna call it? Linn? San Manuel? East of Edinburg by la Blanca or North of Town? ITS TIME OUR CITY BECOMES SINGLE MEMBER DISTRICTS JUST LIKE MCALLEN. Lets see McAllen has about 4 to 6 Hospitals, just like Edinburg, about 3 HEBs compared to Edinburgs 2, Walmarts we have the same amount, High Schools they have 3 including the Baccalauriette School and we have 3 high schools too, and plenty of jails, and juvenile detention centers. Edinburg is larger than McAllen Land Mass wise, so why DONT WE HAVE SINGLE MEMBER DISTRICTS?

Sorry folks but this is exactly what is starting to happen, life is imitating art. We the citizens are suppose to sit back and let some candidate with money declare that the Cop who did his job in eliminating a possible DWI THREAT to other drivers off the road was indeed wrong? Cmon! we here at The Political Ring don't specialize in BASHING Candidates, but when you refuse to admit doing wrong like us ordinary folk, and on top of that accuse some officer of the law doing his job of being wrong, Well that just about does it for us. That officer in Mission was just doing the job he once swore to do and now we have Ol Eddie getting the Mayor's son in his corner, political favors, and some nice public letter in the monitor equaling a pretty penny I'm sure. But in the end, why all the hoopla and so defensive against an employee doing his job. That is a bit bullish on Eddie's part to go bulleying a civil service employee in court. Chances are the charges will get dismissed after much arm twisting on the officer by well who do you all think. I'm sure the list is long, but distinguished. And is that justice? NO, hence the picture of Ol Paulie Walnuts from the Sopranos, "Hey forget about it T." "It's all taken care of T." Were some of Paulie's lines in the hit series, and well those type of lines probably fit this situation. A dapper dressed business like attired man with connections and money to influence either for good or bad depends on who you ask. This type of cover up deserves such poster figure. I thought Mr.Saenz would of owned up to the incident, but the letter in the monitor failed to do so. I expected a class act in asking the public for forgiveness, but Mr. Saenz has proven to deny such incident even occurred and that it wasn't his fault and that is just not acceptable. Wrong words in the letter, Wrong actions in accusing the officer in doing wrong, and wrong actions in covering it up. Whats next sir? What do you want to cover up next? Which hourly employee do you wanna sick your high priced lawyer on? Who do you wanna discredit next? What situation will you use your political connections to get out of next? Fighting an officer of the law in court will probably gain you some confort in stroking your ego, but the public isn't as jaded as you might think sir. Wrong Wrong Wrong, I expected better in a candidate and I was wrong. This is not a personal attack, but we here at The Political Ring will not sit here and watch this type of mob mentallity bulleying the everyday man working to make ends meet. That officer was doing his job and now we are defending him and his actions.

Well we read the letter on enews' blog and well we started thinking about the title. And disected the whole thing and these are the choice of words that were chosen to describe the state of the campaign at the Saenz camp or at enews. By the way, we didn't bother giving the definition of LEADERSHIP, because as you guys may already know, Mr.Saenz isn't IN OFFICE. So read and enjoy:

Adversity- A condition of misfortune, poverty or difficulty

Misfortune - 1. unnecessary and unforeseen trouble resulting from an unfortunate event

2. an unfortunate state resulting from unfavorable outcomes.

Poverty- having little money or few possessions.

Difficulty- trouble: an effort that is inconvenient.

Do any of the aforementioned words APPLY to Mr.Saenz? It was an ALLEGED DWI! Wheres the ADVERSITY in that? One chooses to drink, then one chooses to drive, then one chooses to lie about it. I see no adversity nor leadership. I seriously think that this letter needs to be re-addressed.

EDINBURG — The screens are dim at the Alamo Drafthouse months after the much anticipated movie theater and restaurant was expected to open.

In fact, crews haven’t hung the screens and most of the interior work at the cinema and its neighboring businesses isn’t complete.

Developers and owners first announced that the theater restaurant would open its doors, fire up its grills and start rolling projectors in March.

But after many delays, builders have pushed back the starting date until at least December, hopefully in time to catch part of the lucrative holiday blockbuster season, said developer Paul Garza.

The sheer scope of the project and unexpected costs has pushed back Alamo Drafthouse’s opening and the rest of the Trenton Crossroads project, he said.

“There has never been a ground-up Alamo Drafthouse,” Garza said, noting that all the existing Alamo Drafthouse locations were converted from older movie theaters.

“And this is the first one that’s over 800 people. What we’ve got is different than anything in the whole (Rio Grande) Valley.”

Construction at the 20-acre site at the northeast corner of Trenton and Jackson roads has temporarily stopped while the development company Garza heads — One Orion Properties — refinances for funds to finish the site. He said the bank asked him to stop work so the property’s value wouldn’t change while they arranged more financing.

Work should restart in the next few weeks, he said.

“We are about 86 percent done,” he said.

Several restaurants, a bowling alley and other retail businesses are also expected to go up at the site.

Owners of the Drafthouse franchise in South Texas say the cinema’s management team has been hired and the rest of its 140-person workforce should be employed after an opening date is announced.

City manager says contractor left the gates open

EDINBURG - Six years after the September 11th attacks many small airports remain vulnerable to terrorists.
Counter-terrorism experts tell NEWSCHANNEL 5 Al-Qaeda could be plotting to steal a small plane, pack it with explosives, and fly it into a high-value target like a crowded building or stadium.
The government is working with small airports to improve security measures.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 put the new security to the test at an airport we have documented security problems with before.
Will Ripley managed to walk through an open gate and wander around the Edinburg Airport for more than half an hour, gaining access to many restricted areas.
During the time, Will even questioned pilots about stealing aircraft.
Airport Director Deborah Melvin called police and reported Will Ripley for entering a restricted area.
Once the police arrived, they issued a warning for criminal trespassing.
Edinburg City Manager J.J. Rodriguez says a contractor working on a new warehouse left the gates opened and failed to report Will Ripley when he entered the area.
"I think what we need to do is address it to the contractor immediately in order to avoid this from happening again," says Rodriguez.
He tells NEWSCHANNEL 5 new security measures have been put in place since our visit to the airport a year ago.
New security cameras are in place, and there's a direct phone line to the government.
The city promises the Edinburg Airport is more secure but says more needs to be done.

HERES MY TAKE ON THIS STORY:

It's funny when you think of how our city shops around for talent. That lady on the news clip supposedly heading up the Director of Airport position I won't mention any names, but just ask our council members how much qualifications she had prior to EARNING(wink wink) such POSITION. Oh and ask the council what job she had prior to such position, the answer will shock and amaze you as to how our city picked this woman to head up the airport gig and how our city SHOPS around for TALENTED WELL QUALIFIED PEOPLE TO RUN OUR CITY GOVERNMENT(another big ol wink wink, ok my eye stayed shut on that one).

MY ADVICE TO OUR COUNCIL:

Can't we get anyone better for these security sensitive positions? And if I get the reply of "well she was the leading candidate for the job" I will first fall off my chair in utter disgust, then I will dish out what I know of her job history prior to Airport Director and we'll just let the readers decide if they think this Director is well qualified or if it was a lapse in judgment on our council's part. Something very disturbing is becoming very popular here in Edinburg. Gangs! No I’m not describing those in the streets, schools or committing mischief, I am describing the GANGS of Adults in POLITICAL FACTIONS.

This TOWN is getting torn apart by a very few FACTIONS and for those of you that have no clue as to what I am describing, let me further explain what we here at THE POLITICAL RING are referring to.

For example you the voter are sitting at home minding your business and all of a sudden you either get a phone call from a candidate seeking office, political mail, or have someone knocking on your door seeking support for a certain candidate maybe even handing you a flyer about the candidate and his or her FACTION printed on the paper. Yep, its just that simple now a days, that some candidates get together pitch in a few thousand bucks and have all there functions together, all printed political materials have there names together, and you would think that maybe they can save a couple of bucks with this type of cooperation with one another huh? Sort of like carpooling, but only they not only carpool together to help each other out save gas money, they in fact try to run the competition off the road. Well not too extreme, but in theory that is exactly what takes place.

FACTIONS vs FACTIONS? What is a voter to do, when they may like say one of the candidates from the bunch and decide only to support that one candidate from that bunch and another candidate from the opposing bunch? Well, it seems that is being frowned upon. SUPPORT THEM ALL OR YOUR AGAINST US seems to be the norm here in Edinburg now. That sort of GANG MENTALLITY is not only troublesome but could prove to be confusing for some voters or maybe even all. Though, very few may voice there concerns, we have decided to shed some light on this GROSS EPIDEMIC PLAGUING US THE CITIZENS. Pachangas, bailes, comida, musica and la jente conocida, is all good things to be apart of, but not when you’re alienating some of those you care about or support. Reminds me of that movie GANGS of NEW YORK, The Old vs The New. Is that the future? Is that the best that could come about from our City? Is this Historically Old way of doing things still alive and well in our very own backyard today? I mean seriously, Hidalgo County was notorious for its pachanga politics in the 1800’s when the blue rivaled the reds. The only difference is that the political Anglo Names were replaced by Mexican Names on the ballot, oh and we evolved from a lever to a button touch screen just yesterday.

HOW INSULTING it must feel for the citizens to have to be dictated as to who to choose once political season is upon us. The voter gets picked up, fed, transported to and from the voting polls, and en route the political strategists give the voter a cheat sheet with the names of the political strategists’ employers. And with that in hand the voter is instructed as to how, when, and why to do what was instructed when entering the voting booths. That Movie, Gangs of New York is an interesting political movie that depicts how these sort of tactics were employed then and I must admit is rather disturbing today to witness such accounts.

What can be done you ask? Well as long as we let it happen nothing will be done. Who will control the seats of power in our town? Well those that has the stronger faction. Why do they control in such manner? Because we let them and many don’t care to stand up and dispute such ARROGANCE. Will this process ever change? It hasn’t changed since the 1800s. How many factions exist in Edinburg today? You can probably count the factions in Edinburg on one hand. What do these Factions do when they are in Power? They do how they please and prosper very well. Do they let anyone prosper as well? NO, it is already decided as to which parts of the faction will control what. Jobs, Contracts, Money, and Power is only afforded to members of the Faction and not those poor individuals that invested there vote in such factions. DO THESE FACTIONS REMEMBER THE VOTERS? WELL YES, WHEN IT’S POLITICAL SEASON THEY WILL GIVE YOU FREE FOOD, ENTERTAINMENT, ALCOHOL, AND TRANSPORTATION. But other than that, NO, they will not remember you. Try asking them for a favor or job months after the elections, GOOD LUCK! Why do such things occur? Because it’s easy to manipulate people for a short period of time and well some of the poor citizens feel important and detrimental during this period of elections so they accept any and all attention as well as handouts they are given by these factions.

SAD NEWS TO HEAR and SAD DISPLAY OF PEOPLE BEING HERDED LIKE CATTLE. Let’s have some decency and respect for our citizens and our community. Elderly people do not need to be wielded about like some objects of value during these periods just so that they could be given some bingo prizes. Or some impoverished people be given an amount of money (wink wink) to vote a certain way. Lets vote for the CANDIDATE (single not plural) that best suits us the voter rather than having some FACTION FORCE THERE PARTY DOWN THE THROATS OF EVERY VOTER THEY WISH TO EXPLOIT.

REMEMBER in the MOVIE Gangs of New York, The Old Establishment defeated the First New Comers only to be defeated by the 2nd New Comers, the offspring of the 1st original newcomers. Does life imitate art? That is left to be determined here in Edinburg. A New Beginning shall come in the near future.

HARLINGEN — A group of men held yellow and orange signs Friday that read, “Hispanic World War II Vets were excluded. Why?” The men also held American flags and black-and-white Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flags as they protested filmmaker Ken Burns’ documentary series, “The War,” which is scheduled to premier Sunday on Public Broadcasting Service stations across the country. “We want to make sure that the public knows — especially PBS and this affiliate here, KMBH — that we are opposed to the airing of this documentary by Ken Burns,” said M. Felix Rodriguez, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars District 18. “It’s an inaccurate portrayal of the diversity of the groups that contributed to the victory over our enemies during World War II.” Rodriguez and four other veterans, all of whom have fathers, fathers-in-law or uncles who served during World War II, stood in an empty field Friday across the street from the KMBH-TV60 building with their signs and flags. “They left us out,” veteran Maximo Belmarez said. “Mexicans played a big part of the war. It was not puros gueritos fighting.” Veteran Efrain Solis said that even though Burns added segments to his documentary featuring Latino and Native American veterans, it was only after various groups protested their initial absence. “It’s an afterthought,” Solis said. Eduardo Casas, a retired Marine and retired teacher from the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo school district, said his biggest worry is that teachers will use the documentary as an educational tool. “That’s my concern as an educator,” Casas said. “It’s inaccurate. That’s a worry. It will give the wrong message to young students.” Casas said documentarians have a responsibility to do thorough and complete research, because documentaries are often used in classrooms. Questions to KMBH regarding the protest were directed to the e-mail account of the station’s general manager Monsignor Pedro Briseño, who did not respond as of Friday. The documentary sparked protests throughout the nation as well as threats to boycott products of the series’ sponsors. Some cartoonists even dedicated their comic strips to telling the stories of Hispanic World War II veterans, according to The Associated Press. The AP also reported that Burns and PBS reached an agreement with a Hispanic veterans group to add a segment that includes content from Native American and Latino veterans. But Rodriguez, fellow veterans and historians said that isn’t enough, calling it “a slap in the face.” “What he is saying is (Hispanic and Native American veterans) didn’t participate or contribute to the success in winning the war,” Rodriguez said. “It is an insult to me, but more of an insult to my dad.” Jennifer Mata, a history professor at the University of Texas-Pan-American, said leaving out that history could lead to issues of identity problems for younger generations because they won’t see their ancestors’ contributions. Mata and fellow UTPA history professor Amy Hay said World War II was a significant war for Hispanics as well as other minorities, because they were fighting against discrimination abroad while facing it in their own country. Trinidad Gonzales, a history instructor at South Texas College in McAllen, said he hopes more Hispanic veterans and their families will record their own histories. Gonzales said he is working with Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez — a University of Texas at Austin professor collecting oral histories of Hispanics who lived during World War II — to record the histories of veterans throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Rivas-Rodriguez also founded Defend the Honor, a campaign that criticizes what it calls Burns’ omission of Hispanic and Native American veterans from his documentary. “The bottom line is, we can’t just allow the documentary (to be) considered to be a true reflection of what was going on in World War II,” she said.

Top Democratic strategist signs on for Saenz

EDINBURG, September 18 - Kelly Fero, one of the top Democratic strategists in Texas, has signed on as a campaign consultant to House District 40 candidate Eddie Saenz.
Saenz, a 47-year-old civil engineer, ran for the District 40 seat in the Democratic primary in 2004 but lost easily to incumbent Rep. Aaron Peña, D-Edinburg. Saenz picked up 36 percent of the vote, Peña, a 48-year-old attorney, secured 64 percent.
Fero, who has worked in the past with state Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, state Rep. Veronica Gonzales, D-McAllen, and Hidalgo County Judge J.D. Salinas, says he believes things will be different in 2008.
“It’s a new day and I think the voters of District 40 want a new direction. The dynamics have changed,” Fero said.
“The leadership climate in Texas is increasingly in a state of flux. We are in a state of transformation and people are looking for something new. Without being supercritical of Aaron, he is on the wrong side of history in supporting Tom Craddick.”
A former award-winning journalist and author, Fero has worked with governors and other top elected officials around the country. In Texas, he is perhaps best known for his work on the campaigns of former Comptroller John Sharp. Sharp backed Saenz in the 2004 election.
Fero, who lives in Austin, was raised in Argentina and speaks Spanish fluently. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from UNAM, the national university in Mexico City. He has worked as a communications strategist for both Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo and presidential candidate Francisco Labastida. He has also written influential studies Texas-Mexico border issues.
In the 2004 campaign, Peña portrayed Saenz as a business-friendly, closet Republican. Peña had served just one term in the House and was viewed as a staunch Democrat loyal to Democratic Caucus leader Jim Dunnam, D-Waco. Once he had beaten Saenz, Peña took a different path, pledging support for Craddick, the Republican House speaker.
At the start of the 2007, Peña gave a nomination speech for Craddick and voted for him in a contentious speaker’s race at the start of the session. He was rewarded with the chairmanship of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.
By the end of a fraught session, some Craddick Ds, such as Reps. Patrick Rose, D-Dripping Springs, and Eddie Lucio III, D-Harlingen, had deserted the speaker. Another Craddick D, Rep. Joe Deshotel, D-Beaumont, led a walkout from the House chamber after Craddick refused to recognize members who wanted to oust him.
Peña stayed loyal to Craddick throughout, and, in an interview with the Guardian at the end of the session, said being a member of the leadership team paid big dividends for the Rio Grande Valley and his district.
“As difficult as it was, we far exceeded our expectations. We really did. It was a success beyond any other region of the state,” Peña said. “Clearly, our position in the leadership team helped.”
Peña pointed to the additional $5 million appropriated to the Regional Academic Health Center, $3 million for a substance abuse facility in Edinburg, $750,000 for the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg, and $45 million for a Department of Public Safety center in Hidalgo County.
Fero said it was clear Peña would not be able to cast Saenz as the Republican-friendly candidate this time.
“Aaron swift-boated Eddie in 2004. That is not going to happen this time,” Fero said. “In fact, Aaron is going to have a hard time painting anyone but himself as being in bed with the Republicans. He may have run as a Democrat but he has voted as a Republican.”
Times do appear to have changed since 2004. Back then, Saenz and his supporters claimed Peña was a back bench bomb thrower who could not pass legislation because he would not work with the House leadership. Responding to early criticism from Saenz this time round, Peña has said his opponent would not be effective if he positioned himself as “a back-bencher bomb-thrower.”
Fero said Peña would try to claim he had achieved much for his district by being a member of the leadership team. He said the claims would not stand up to close scrutiny. “The fact is that District 40 is still one of the poorest districts in the state,” Fero said.
Fero said Saenz could legitimately challenge Peña on two important issues – his performance on restoring cuts to the Children’s Health Insurance Program and his absence on a key vote for a Voter ID bill supported by Republicans.
Peña has said the Craddick D’s played a crucial role in changing the eligibility rules so that tens of thousands of children could be re-enrolled in CHIP. “The Democrats for Reform negotiated and fought for CHIP every step of the way. We were turned down multiple times. We negotiated and we succeeded,” Peña told the Guardian.
Fero said District 40 voters would see through such comments. “CHIP enrollment is still not close to what it was. It is still a huge challenge that Aaron has not been up to,” Fero said.
On the voter ID bill, Fero pointed out that Peña missed a crucial vote in April on an amendment offered by Dunnam that would have exempted citizens aged 65 from over from having to provide more forms of ID in order to vote. The amendment was defeated by just one vote, 73-72, with the vote mostly breaking along party lines.
Peña missed the vote because he was giving a speech about crime victims in McAllen. “He could have given that speech any day of the week. When it came to voting against the Voter ID bill that Republicans wanted, Aaron was nowhere to be seen,” Fero said.
Fero said District 40 voters would look more favorably at Saenz this time round because he has shown the leadership skills necessary to be effective in Austin.
“Eddie is a community leader with knowledge of infrastructure projects that are critical to the area. He has been creating jobs for many years and knows all about health care.”

Rally for Working Families

Monday afternoon several Hidalgo County employees attended a rally at the courthouse plaza urging commissioners to improve sick leave and the distribution of raises.
The Service Employees International Union spokesman told Action 4 News that this is an issue that they've been working on for 7 months and for some reason it keeps being put on the backburner.
Hidalgo County has a meet and confer process. The big issue is employees have a lot of sick leave and often lose it because they are not allowed to use the sick leave to take care of their family. They also want raises distributed more evenly.

THE POLITICAL RING's TAKE ON THIS MATTER:
These workers should demonstrate such rally in about 5 months and just witness how many Political Power Players will be on hand to settle some of these disputes. The only thing is that the Hidalgo County Budget is just about inked waiting to be voted on.

MY ADVICE, for those employees who wish to protest should do so in an orderly non-violent manner. Poised, Intelligent and prepared. If many assemble with organization and a speaker, it is considered a function or rally, But if many assemble without organization it is considered a MOB and mobs get tear gased or arrested. Theres a difference in achieving your goals. So read up on ROBERT RULES as to how to initiate your ADDRESS THE ISSUES RATHER THAN PROTEST DURING COMMISSIONERS COURT IN AN ORDERLY MANNER. THE TV CAMERAS ARE THERE, SO THE ATTENTION WILL BE HEARD AND ADDRESSED. PREPARE YOURSELF WITH CUE CARDS AND ADDRESS ALL THE KEY ISSUES ON YOUR AGENDA IN A RESPECTFUL TONE. The sad truth is that many parents can't get off from work to pick up there kids or have to resort to family and friends to help alleviate such routine important tasks. I mean c'mon its our Children, and one can't put a price on them right? Well I'm not going in that direction, but I do see that there is a MAJOR DILEMA going on with after school hours, pick ups, transport, and well daycare. HOLD UP, I'm not trying to KNOCK THE IDEA of AFTER SCHOOL DAYCARES. God knows they come in handy and they serve a great purpose. But I did however witness an auto accident involving a daycare minivan with another vehicle in a very congested area. Now that got me thinking, these sort of accidents can happen to anyone right? Well, it didn't appear that anyone was hurt in the fender bender, but one can never be too sure about our very own children being transported by well strangers, I mean we know the teachers at school because we meet them on meet the teacher night, and well we know the teachers at the daycare, because well we write the check out to them. But what about those pulling the transporting duties, who are they? What do we know about them? I challenge any parent out there to at least know the full name of those they are entrusting with there childrens' lives everyday after school on our public streets.

Am I the only one that feels that AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE SERIOUSLY IN NEED. You drop of your little bundles of joy at a safe haven for them to learn, eat, and socialize with there peers. Parents can set aside that responsibility for at least 7 to 8 hours while they focus on doing there jobs and rest assured that their children are in good responsible hands.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY MUCH ANTICIPATED POINT:

WHY DON'T WE AS A COMMUNITY DEVELOP SOME TYPE OF 1 TO 2 HOUR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM COMPRISED OF VOLUNTEERS THAT WOULD WATCH, TEACH, OR CARE FOR THOSE SAME STUDENTS ON THAT SAME CAMPUS THAT NEED TO WAIT FOR THERE PARENTS UNTIL 5PM. I KNOW I KNOW SOME OF THOSE TEACHERS NEED TO ATTEND TO THERE MATTERS TOO AND I KNOW MANY WILL COME ON HERE AND GRUNT ABOUT THE COSTS OF SUCH PROGRAM AND HOW MUCH TAX DOLLAR WILL GO TO THAT AND THE HONEST TRUTH WOULD BE= NO NEW TAXES, NO NEW EMPLOYEES, NO EXTRA HOURS FOR TEACHERS, AND JUST A 1 DAY TRAINING COURSE FOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS, INTERNS, TEACHERS IN TRAINING OR THOSE SEEKING A CAREER IN TEACHING.

NOW CAN THIS WORK, OF COURSE IT CAN. WHAT ARE THE LEGALITIES OR RED TAPE: BEURACRACY, BEURACRACY, BEURACRACY! THE SCHOOL BOARD CAN MAKE IT POSSIBLE, SO I CALL ON ANY BLOGGER, PUBLIC OFFICIAL, OR POLITICIAN TO LOOK INTO SUCH A PROGRAM TO HELP ALLEVIATE THINGS FOR THOSE PARENTS WHO LACK THE MEANS. THIS TYPE OF PROGRAM MAY ALSO PROVE TO BE AN ASSET TO OUR COMMUNITY ADDING MUCH VOLUNTEER HELP. AND IT WILL HELP THOSE ENTERING THE FIELD OF TEACHING TO NETWORK WITH THOSE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AS IT WOULD BENEFIT THOSE STUDENTS GAIN SOME MUCH NEEDED HOURS OF EXPERIENCE.

Well '08 is right around the corner and The Republicans are still scrambling to get a viable candidate to oppose Hillary or Obama Democrat Frontrunners.

This Current Administration has left many DAZED and CONFUSED not to mention PARANOID. JOB WELL DONE BUSH, you sure managed to get everyone CONFUSED about at least one thing since you took office. Am against Bush? Do I follow the Democrats? I'm an educated person who researches to PROS and CONS about the issues that have the most impact on US the everyday citizen. And the following are some of the most impacting issues thus far:

1. Price of Gas: which means everything from food and medication being delivered via anything running on fuel has skyrocketed. I THOUGHT PRICE GAUGING WAS ILLEGAL?

2. IRAQ INVASION: The U.S. spending A CAGILLIONS DOLLARS on well we still havent figured out that one. MISLEADING LIES LIES LIES

3. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION: NOW that whole b.s. line was as confusing as it was misleading. VERY VERY CONFUSING

4. OH AND WHO CAN FORGET THE WHOLE OSAMA HIDE AND SEEK FIASCO: Osama must be the KING of HIDE AND SEEK. CONFUSING TO SAY THE LEAST.

NOW ARE THINGS GOING TO GET BETTER IN '08?
If a Democrat wins, the outcome may alarm some of those Yellow Dog Democrats, now I am not siding with either side as of yet. WAIT A MINUTE HERE, what gives Bert Ogden Mission Mazda Kia in Mission (ph#519-3333) the RIGHT to Print a picture of an Anglo Man (David Fisher) Used Car Manager with a cartoon look of a Thick Black Mustache and A Sombrero, who is this person trying to impersonate? Is it a Diez y Sies de Septiembre SPOOF? DAMN, we here at the political ring heard from some people who found that rather OFFENSIVE so we did our due diligence and called the Auto dealer and asked to speak to the General Manager as to why they would print such an offensive picture on a man who maybe didn't even know his picture had been used in such way. First of all, I am not trying to bicker with the Dealership because We found out that it was in fact the General Manager of that particular location with the idea in the first place. NOW, would they have done that to the African American Community? My guess is NO. So why is it so easy for people to dump on us? Hispanics, Mexicans, Mexicanos, Latinos or whatever political correct term you may want to use to describe us, this type of RACIAL PRINT is profoundly misleading and misrepresents. Yeah, some may think its just a joke or festive of the holiday, but It's Highly Offensive and I guarantee you that if this Same General Manager wanted to have his USED CAR MANAGER be festive for diez y seis de Septiembre in a picture, that is the same stupidity and Ignorance of the same man dressing in Black Face for Martin Luther King jr Day. IT'S INSULTING, RACIAL, AND ABOVE ALL IGNORANT. We are a bigger Minority in regards to population, yet I can guarantee you that if this type of racial picture was depicting an African American in a negative like, the phones would light up with callers as well as protest and boycotting. This picture not only has an anglo man painted like a MEXICANO, BUT THEY have the Audacity to do it to none other than a USED CAR Manager at that, WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN? POLITICA IN EDINBURG SCHOOLS?

Well summer is gone and yet another school year is upon us. I have been noticing some strange coincidences or politica in the Edinburg Schools for quite some time now, yet there wasn't anyone in the school system who would admit to it, then all of a sudden a friend of a friend came forth and started to divulge some interesting tid bits about the going ons in our very own schools from elementary to high schools. I must warn you that what I heard was not at all suprising to me, in fact I had plenty of clues to piece together in the past as to what this teacher had tried confirming.

Some of the tid bit of information: Was that Teachers' children got preferential treatment and better placement. For example she said that those Teachers who worked in the same school had the best teachers hand picked to teach there very own kids, as opposed to the whole: parents have to wait for the first day of class in order to peak at there childrens' course schedule or teachers. Now I'm not insinuating that there are teachers better than others, but I am stating that the proof is in the testing results, and those teachers who constantly recieve State Recognition are usually handpicked by there peers to teach there own children regardless if there kids are capable of handling the required workload. This is known to be a common practice among these elementary teachers, I guess some type of code I guess. Oh and not to mention the awards ceremonies, these teachers' and administrators' kids get so many awards that they even have to create new awards just to present them. One child of an administrator once was said to have recieved 21 awards in one day and who did the presenting of those awards, none other than her own parent. WOW! I was floored at this point, I had to repeadetly ask if this individual was joking or were these in fact true stories.

This one teacher also went into detail as to which teachers' or administrator' kids got to get the parts in the school plays, extra curricular activities, school sports, UIL, etc. OK by this time I was in complete disgust as to how SOME of these people were getting away with such POLITICA B.S. So did I take one person's experience with a grain of salt? Of Course I did, so I called a few parents I know that work for the District that Have had there children Graduate already from HighSchool and What do you think they said? "SURE THESE THINGS HAPPEN EVERY YEAR." "I EVEN HAD TO PASS A KID JUST BECAUSE I WORKED WITH HER MOTHER AND THE KID WAS A CHEERLEADER" were there quotes.

SICK! was the first words that came to mind after hearing all this utter b.s. Some of our very own kids will be alienated from competitions, Good CLASSROOM Teachers, Good Groups, and well just about anything that takes place in school due to the untold practice of such POLITICA.

Our kids deserve better! One parent told me that she was a judge in a cheerleading trouts competition and that and I QUOTE HER here, "This one short husky girl just couldn't jump to save her life and that is why I couldn't give her the points for her to make the squad." But it resulted in chaos after the tryouts, the Mother (teacher with the district) of the one cheerleader who couldn't make the squad ended up making death threats to the judge in the parking lot.

Now does this type of practice only occur in Edinburg? I'd be ignorant to think so. Now do some of you guys feel this is highly unlikely? How many of you guys flat out deny such practices going on in our very own schools? Some of the stories I heard from more than 8 credible sources that in fact work for the district at all levels.

Well for those who are finding it difficult to believe such statements, heres an idea: If you're in doubt that POLITICA exists in your child's school, do one of the following observations and please come on here and blog the results, you may do so ANONYMOUS. Heres some helpful observation tips to discover POLITICA in our children's schools:

1. WATCH for the children of teachers that work at that particular school taking up every extra curricular activity, making every event in the top 2, being chosen as the lead for any school play regardless of talent.

2. KEEP track of which teachers are the RECOGNIZED teachers in the SCHOOL, chances are there peers children will be in there class regardless of test scores.

3. AWARDS CEREMONY: Teachers' children in the same school take home more awards than Michael Jackson in the 80's Music Awards.

4. ALWAYS, but Always will these teachers' children be given preferential treatment in the very schools that there mommy or daddy work in.

HERES MY ADVICE TO THESE TEACHER PARENTS:
Get over it already!! If your kids got it they got it, the awards, better classes, better teachers, and extra curricular activity roles will come eventually, but if you as a teacher have to be there to insure that POLITICA is on your side in order to try to build some type of foundation for your child, well I guess you're just gonna have to keep following your child through every grade I guess.

EDINBURG NAMES NEW CITY MANAGER!!

J.J.Rodriguez tapped as new city manager of Edinburg. Well the SEARCH is FINALLY OVER! You think? Was there ever a Search to begin with? Was it simply a formality process to post the job on the website and in the papers? How did the Recruitment Go? Well all those questions can be put to rest already or can they? The Council announced that there very own interim city manager was being TAPPED to be the Permanent City Manager, his contract being based on an anual basis of course. Was this the wisest choice to make? How did the council vote? Whats the Educational Background of Mr.Rodriguez you ask? My sources say this gentleman has a Political Science degree from UTPA and has extensive experience in city government(planning dept under Juan Lopez). Most books in a Masters Course would hardly touch the surface of such experience. So how does the community feel about this new City Manager? Opinions are always welcomed on this blog, but please have some substance to the opinions rather than just rambling on with foul language and predispositioned attitudes.

The question is about The City of Edinburg's New City Manager (CEO of EDINBURG), Is this choice the wisest Decision for Edinburg?

The City of Edinburg's website has the position for City Manager listed as follow:

A Bachelor or Advanced degree in Public Administration with specialization in municipal administration is preferred. A minimum of five years as a City Manager or Assistant City Manager in cities with a Council/Manager form of government with a population of 20,000 or more is preferred. The applicant should be highly knowledgeable in government finance and accounting procedures, budget development and internal controls and audits.

EXPERIENCE vs EDUCATION ACCOLADES? shouldn't the experience be at 10 yrs as opposed to just 5, I guess they read up on Mr.Rodriguez's experience and went off those credentials, because the aforementioned criteria is taylored to what Mr.Rodriguez has, no more or no less.

I'm sure Mr.Rodriguez is knowledgeable in his job, but Why is CRITERIA PUBLISHED to fill such jobs? It is an OXY MORON, to publish a VACANCY POSITION that DEMANDS SUCH CRITERIA only to hand the job over to one WHO HAS EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CITY and ITS GOVERNMENT. Now does this certain individual have the know how to operate a city government successfully? Did the other candidates have successful track records as well? How did the candidates compare to one another?

Heres my take on this situation:
My opinion is Valley Compadres HAVE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH YOU IN ORDER FOR YOU TO GET THE JOB, REGARDLESS OF EDUCATION.

QUE ES UN Ph.D o Masters?

Mr.Rodriguez did not fare better than the others in the Education aspect of the JOB CRITERIA.
But he did know the Council and Mayor on a FIRST NAME BASIS and probably has done some of them a favor or two in the past, AND THAT MY FRIEND IS HOW THINGS GET DONE HERE IN EDINBURG. SO THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION ARISES: WHY RECRUIT or PUBLISH THE VACANCY PUBLICLY? IS IT A MERE A FORMALITY? BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME PRETTY UNDER EDUCATED EMPOLOYED AT THE CITY AND COUNTY LEVEL, BUT ITS ALWAYS OK, because some Ol Politician will come out and trumpet just how much experience and (in spanish CONOSENCIA knowing those in high places) they have. THIS PRACTICE IS WRONG and IT SENDS A BAD MESSAGE TO THOSE GETTING EDUCATED. I GUESS THAT IS WHY EVERY GRADUATING SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL's WORST NIGHTMARE IS HAVING TO STICK AROUND HERE AS OPPOSED TO GETTING EDUCATED FURTHER NORTH. Recruiting from within is not always the most successful way of governing, sometimes restructuring with the right personnel gets the best and brightest. I can guarantee you that the best and brightest don't always get the job here in Edinburg, due to the whole CRAB IN THE BUCKET SYNDROME that plagues many down here. Many feel there jobs may be COMPROMISED to those better qualified or educated, so those Veterans with 10 plus years may become stagnant and difficult to manage. But City Hall is full of Pre-Madonnas who can't be shown new ways of doing things. Even the Black Jack tables in Vegas get a new Dealer from time to time. My attorney, doctor, dentist, surgeon, accountant better have the best education possible.

This type of Government is riddled with the ol saying, "It Doesn't Matter WHAT you Know, But It's Who You Know that Counts"

WHATS WRONG WITH VALLEY HOSPITALS?

Disturbing news was just reported earlier this evening about an auto wreck in the Pharr area that involved 2 teens with an elderly woman with infants. As if that wasn't disturbing news enough, one of the infants was severly injured from what seems to have been head trauma according to a statement a family relative stated during the report on the evening news. This poor child had to be airlifted to a Hospital in Corpus Christie or San Antonio.

HERES MY GRIPE:
We have about a hundred HOSPITALS just in Edinburg and McAllen alone. We have a womans, children, heart, co-ed, surgical, cancer center, etc, WHY CAN'T WE HAVE A SEVERE TRAUMA TREATMENT FACILITY HERE IN OUR VERY OWN BACKYARD? WE probably have just as much Auto accidents as Corpus does, so with all these hospitals not one can treat major trauma situations? THAT IS JUST PLAIN B.S., our area is close to 60% Government Subsidized which means Uncle Sam is footing most medical bills here in our very own Valley. Uncle Sam pays on time and well, Some of these doctors are getting spoiled not having to adhere to Hospital MBAs Management Style and rather opting to Incorporate with other Docs and well govern themselves picking and choosing what type of patients and services they wish to administer.

Our Very own Edinburg Hospital Doesn't treat Pregnant women, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? In an area increasing in population as rapidly as we are, our very own pregnant women if transported in an emergency must have to be transported to McAllen. Maybe that new Women's Hospital is dedicated to such services, but my friend's wife just got transported all the way to Mission 2 weeks ago. Both McAllen Hospitals Emergency rooms were packed, Go Figure. The Medical Field here in the Valley is on a rampant growth, so that being said, its just sad that an Infant near death has to be airlifted in such a critical period to some medical facility out of our very own area. SAD SAD SAD, Our Prayers go out to the Family of this Child and wish him GODSPEED. And well to anyone having to be airlifted to cities such as Corpus, San Antonio, or Further, We hope one day our area will have the proper facilities and personnel to accomodate such tragedies.

Heres my take on the whole situation:
I don't think its the facilities that are lacking in our area, it's the RIGHT PEOPLE for the JOB that is lacking. Now, now, now, I'm not throwing stones here nor am I trying to insinuate that our Medical Professionals lack the proper training, IT IS JUST THAT THE VERY BEST (ie SURGEONS) ARE FEW AND THEY CHOOSE TO LIVE IN AREAS LIKE SAN ANTONIO, HOUSTON, DALLAS, or AUSTIN as opposed to The VALLEY. Now do the aforementioned cities offer a more luxurious lifestyle or community? Well Ask a sought after Surgeon. What are our Hospitals doing to RECRUIT the VERY BEST? OBVIOUSLY history has dictated to us, we're yet to lure the BEST and Until then our victims here in the Valley will just have to be airlifted to cities that these Medical Assets to there communities call home.

DRINKING WATER CONTAMINATED IN EDINBURG?

CALLING ON OUR MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL!!!

A Company by the name of AQUAKLEEN has representatives going door to door here in our very own city of Edinburg as well as the rest of the Valley running tests on our tap water free of charge. They will schedule an appointment with you and your family, come into your home and demonstrate what contamination our very own tap water has in it. Yes, that is correct our TAP water, the one some drink and all shower in. IS THIS TRUE? HOW COULD THIS BE? We here at the POLITICAL RING are NOT ONLY ADVOCATING THE GENERAL PUBLIC, but imagine if the very same water we use at home has also penetrated public schools. Is this a PUBLIC OUTCRY or simply some company trying to lure some business by using the Good Ol Karl Rove tactic, SCARE THEM HALF TO DEATH, them being us the American people, THEN THEY'LL BELIEVE ANYTHING. Well the answer to that remains to be seen, these demonstrations are free of charge and may prove to be disturbing. So We are calling on all concerned citizens to phone the council and mayor with any concern, if this proves to be true, these issues need some serious swift addressing. And on the other hand lets not think for one minute that it isn't possible, just be vigilant in what this Company offers or tries to convince you to do. Again, take what I'm blogging with a grain of salt, are these FACTS ABOUT THE WATER BEING CONTAMINATED? NOT AS OF YET, but AQUAKLEEN WILL PERFORM THESE TEST IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. And as far as I'm concerned, this Company is real and are there FREE OF CHARGE DEMONSTRATIONS REAL? YES. Now, again I'm in the dark about this one, I haven't asked anyone, I haven't even asked Mr.Espinoza myself, but I'm just printing what was said at the function. We aren't here to disrespect Mr.Espinoza, because we have printed in the past Mr.Espinoza seeking re-election against a new opponent. So is the NEW RUMOR FACT or CHISME?

2. County Commissioner of PCT 4 Oscar Garza was not going to seek re-election. FACT or CHISME?

3. State Rep. Mr.Aaron Pena wasn't going to seek re-election. FACT or CHISME?

4. The New District Judge Position newly created is having Candidate Israel Ramon pitted against former Judge Leticia Hinojosa. FACT or CHISME?

Those seeking the office of Cameron County Sheriff have begun posting up billboards, bumper stickers, and yard signs, SO wheres the ILLEGAL ACTIVITY THERE YOU ASK, well its in the LOGO being used on the political printed materials aforementioned. Apparently these Candidates were either ill advised or it was a detailed overlooked. One may not use the State Seal of Texas to publicly endorse oneself for a political office they do not hold. Which means the badge symbol can't be used in the political print due to the state seal on it. NOW was this some type of malicious intent by these candidates, probably NOT. It was a mere oversight on the printers and candidates' part.

Heres My ADVICE TO THE NOVICE AND INCUMBANTS: Grab yourself the STATES HANDBOOK on CAMPAIGN REGULATIONS in TEXAS, it will not only come in handy, but It will show the public that your just that much more qualified to seek such a position. If you take that initiative or not doesn't necessarily make you a shoe in to the position, but will eliminate the chances of public humiliation. Or hire someone who knows the rules in campaining.

Trash printing BLOGS everywhere serve a multiple of Purposes:

1. MISDIRECTION- misdirect others into believing political spin or finger pointing verbage.

2. DISCREDITING- once you have Discredited opponents, it really doesn't make a difference what one's issues or agenda is. For Example if you have information on your opponent about some type of arrest record, domestic violence etc, well then you as there opponent already have the advantage in that race.

3. AIRING OUT DIRTY LAUNDRY- Bedroom politics has been around for decades and has still proven to be deadly epidemics that plague political careers. For example, that Congressman getting caught in a public restroom propositioning an undercover cop is pretty much a political career ender, imagine if he gets a opponent in his next re-election.

Heres my advice to those trying to get by with all these HEADHUNTING BLOGS out there craving political blood.

1. IGNORE THEM- the general public has a limited attention span(not trying be insulting,just real) with so much reaity affecting our daily lives, todays news will be forgotten once we have to hurry up and pay our high electric bills or more for gas, or just making ends meet.

2. POLITICAL SPIN DOCTORS- these guys don't come cheap either, but they are dedicated to doing damage control on a candidates' personal life, public life, or just your everyday headlines.

3. PRINT THE TRUTH- the more you deny, the more the headhunter is compelled to prove there point. The headhunting blogs hide behind anonymity so they are SAVAGELY THIRSTY FOR POLITICAL BLOOD in a STEALTH LIKE MANNER. Thats what they get paid to do. TO CREATE CHAOS OF THE OPPONENT and have there candidate come up smelling like a champ.

4. GO PUBLIC- Headhunting Blogs have one thing in common, they never PUT DOWN THERE CANDIDATE in public, rather its only quite the opposite, they mention all there candidates accolades, charitible doings if any, and honors they've recieved as well as educational background blah blah blah. Associating the headhunting blogs with the candidate not mentioned is usually the dead give away as to who the blog is really serving. But I must warn you that GOING PUBLIC is really expensive, but needed to spread the message of the campaign, and headhunting blogs dare not go into public printed material. Opponents print negative add campaigns about each other and make up phony campaign groups, but they at least always leave a paper trail.

5. HACKERS!! politiqueras of the cyber world are the future. These guys are being recruited and well financed to, well you guessed it, information, chaos, and some more information on everything from the opponent to well good ol airing out dirty laundry online.

Edinburg News declared BREAKING NEWS that:Ronnie Perez, the bailiff for Bobby Flores, will run for constable against Andy Rios, Mando Patlan and Frank Cerda.

CHISME? or FACT?

Time will tell as to how many people will throw there sombrero in that Constable's Position. CHISME is also circulating that a possible 4th candidate might throw his sombrero into that ring as well, Robert Vela Jr. The Late Coach Vela of Edinburg's Son. Again CHISME? or FACT? The Political Ring isn't endorsing anyone, ridiculing anyone, or declaring any of these possible scenarios are true, because that would be inaccurate. But It would be interesting to see the outcome of this political race. Let me dissect what is known about some of these candidates and what the people may know as well too.

Incumbant Constable Mr.Andy Rios: well his name has been dragged through some headlines and well time will tell as to how Mr.Rios will come out of this situation he is in. And to be fair, the man is nice fellow and he should be aforded due process and wait and see how the courts decide the fate of Mr.Rios. From what I can see, his billboards are still up and he is the incumbant to beat.

Next on the list of possible candidates is Mr.Frank Cerda: Son of the Late Constable Rumaldo Cerda. It is a known fact Mr. Rumaldo Cerda served multiple terms in the very same Position his son now seeks. Great Name Recognition to say the least. I've seen and met the candidate in a past race and he seems like a viable candidate.

POSSIBLE CANDIDATE Robert Vela Jr.: The Late Legendary High School Football Coach that helped pave the way for Edcouch as well as Edinburg's Victorious Seasons' Son. Robert Jr. or Robbie as many may know him, Is an Edinburg Native and has some grass roots here in Edinburg. Now is it true that Mr.Vela is seeking the Constable's position? Not Sure, just rumors circulating as of yet.

Mando Patlan is another possible candidate, but Im not too familiar with him at this point. Yard signs have been posted throughout Edinburg and I've also heard he poses as a strong candidate to vie for the position.

Ronnie Perez, the baliff, I'm sure has been around County Shot Callers, being that he's employed at the Court House. Being a Baliff exposes you to the system as well as the politics going on behind the scenes. Deals being cut daily between attorneys, friends, foes, and the courts. Again the word "DEALS" doesn't necessarily mean shady ones. So lets just stress that point, "DEALS" in courts are usually conducted in a professional manner, seeking to end a court hearing in either plea deals, alternative sentences, reduced bonds, etc. So that being said, I think I've covered the aforementioned Candidates as most people would percieve them on the streets.

Times are getting hotter and our children are spending more time indoors in 70 degree Airconditioned temperatures and Lacking Essential Excercise. High Blood Pressure in children was making headlines the other day, Diabetes dibilitates many hispanics daily, not to mention the poor diets some of these children have due to parents always working or on the go. Not blaming anyone here for the aforementioned. We do what we can for the children, I know that. But our City has some nice parks that lack MATURE TREES FOR SHADE. So what do ya say POLITICOS? Make it happen, Champion the cause. I know children don't VOTE and funds earmarked for them are the first to get the AX when budget constraints hit the fan.

2. Getting Families to ADOPT certain Items in the PARKS to help beautify them, make the park a more personal feeling rather than some public mess.
3. Residents need to be assigned RECYCLING GREEN BINS TO BE PICKED UP SEPARATELY FROM OUR TRASH BINS.
4. BEEF UP ANTI GRAFFITI UNITS. Heres a Hint: Most of those TAGGERS (kids spray painting public and private walls or buildings.) wake up at or about 4am to go and Spray Paint deface private and public property.
5. There should be no flooding around the Fountain Park area, the City Has plenty of PUMPS to drain such areas if need be. Lets not just use such equipment on the Up Scale areas. We all pay taxes, we need those services just the same.
6. The intersection of sugar and canton, one word: SHIT!, lets relieve the children in the daycare and elementary across the street. HIGH DOLLAR development being assembled on that road, why cant canton be refurbished?

In the final days of the 80th Legislature, House Speaker Tom Craddick went to every length possible to keep his position, including resorting to shredding the state constitution, misconstruing House Rules, and disregarding precedents.

Saenz and Associate and Vitaline Healthcare seems to be re-throwing in a very big Sombrero into the Political Ring once again challenging Incumbant Aaron Pena. The last time these two met, Aaron Pena gave him a few jabs to the chin and the Glass jaw broke so bad Vitaline was on hand to administer the defibrilators and resucitate Mr.Saenz back to life. They say the brain can go with out oxygen for a short time during a flatline experience in the political arena, but theres no telling what is compelling Mr. Saenz to re-challenge the Home Grown Puncher Pena again. Well we have a showdown brewing up in the very near future. It will be a Heavyweight Bout between two of Edinburg's Very own:
Incumbant Charlie Espinoza Vs. Challenger David Chavana
These two individuals have roots in Edinburg and both are a class act, it should be interesting to see this turnout when all is said, campaigned and done.

Another interesting Match will have an Opponent Challenging Incumbant City Councilman Gene Espinoza. However that Opponent is only rumored and has not formally announced his candidacy for the city councilman position.

City Councilwoman Alma Garza, has yet to be put through the test, as in getting chosen by the people. She was initially appointed and then unopposed. We do however know she has a formidible alliance in family ties with our Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner. This race too should be a good one to watch.

Voter TURNOUT is critical and will draw big numbers due to the 2008 Presidential Election. All candidates have fans and critics alike. Now will they draw a good turnout in favor or opposition? Well one thing is for certain in this City of Edinburg, there are factions conspiring, whispering, and networking to make there faction the winning party.
