The EDINBURG RING

Well we have a showdown brewing up in the very near future. It will be a Heavyweight Bout between two of Edinburg's Very own:
Incumbant Charlie Espinoza Vs. Challenger David Chavana
These two individuals have roots in Edinburg and both are a class act, it should be interesting to see this turnout when all is said, campaigned and done.

Another interesting Match will have an Opponent Challenging Incumbant City Councilman Gene Espinoza. However that Opponent is only rumored and has not formally announced his candidacy for the city councilman position.

City Councilwoman Alma Garza, has yet to be put through the test, as in getting chosen by the people. She was initially appointed and then unopposed. We do however know she has a formidible alliance in family ties with our Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner. This race too should be a good one to watch.

Voter TURNOUT is critical and will draw big numbers due to the 2008 Presidential Election. All candidates have fans and critics alike. Now will they draw a good turnout in favor or opposition? Well one thing is for certain in this City of Edinburg, there are factions conspiring, whispering, and networking to make there faction the winning party.

It doesn't matter how hard a Politician works for the "La Jente Pobre" All that matters is how well they do for the ones who have and control the business. Many Politico Wanna Be's may be pobre themselves, but they have rich powerful interest groups sponsoring their campaigns. Then these politicos get rich in office. I haven't seen Gene Espinoza get RICH in office yet. Again, Gene's a POBRE POLITICO who serves. Politicos like Ramon Garcia can care less how much a campaign costs, he can survive winning or losing a campaign. It's the POLITICOS who seek office to fill their pockets.

Mr.Saenz has twice the money as Aaron Pena, and the way Ochoa's Faction has been going after the Palacios Family and all there Candidates, who will Aaron have as his Base of Voters? The Ochoaistas are going against all candidates associated with the Palacios Family.

I think both Mr.Pena and Mr.Saenz both pose as viable Candidates, but to be fair and balanced we need some type of Government or Political Experience serving our area as State Rep. I know Mr.Pena is an Attorney and Mr.Saenz is an Engineer, And maybe neither has had formal government experience, but as an attorney you have the experience of legislation (LAWS) and how to implement them. And as an Engineer well you have the experience of ROADS and HOW TO IMPLEMENT THEM. HMMMM, could being a state rep bring future contracts of road building for one of these candidates? I don't Know, I cant predict the future, If I could I wouldn't be here blogging would I? It will be very interesting to see how this race turns out. I give Respect to Mr.Pena for serving and I also give respect to Mr.Saenz for putting himself out there for the people to view him as a possible opponent. Seeking public office can be RECKLESS at times and those who are successful in business as Mr.Saenz obviously is rarely need such bad publicity for business. So for that I do give Mr.Saenz a great deal of respect. Heres To the best Candidate.

what do you think about a drug treatment center in the valley ring master.

A drug treatment in the Valley? Lets get a Veterans Hospital here in the Valley First. Enough with the political Rhetoric, these men and women served their country without hesitation, they were honorably dischared, they performed their TOURS of DUTY as ORDERED TO. And now our Valley Veterans are being ordered to perform countless TOURS OF DUTY to and from SAN ANTONIO Medical Treatment ranging from routine to severe. Did you know that there are trains in Europe and Asia that can travel 240 miles in less than 2 hours. There aint crap of Economy between the Valley and San Antonio.

Heres where I'm getting At, Heres my ADVICE to the POWERS THAT BE:
EITHER GET A VETERANS HOSPITAL HERE IN THE VALLEY WITHIN A TIMELY FASHION, HOPEFULLY WITH 2 YEARS.

or

BUILD A TRAIN ON MAGNETIC TRACKS THAT CAN HAVE OUR VETERANS TRANSPORTED TO AND FROM THE VA IN SAN ANTONIO DAILY FREE OF CHARGE. THE GENERAL PUBLIC WOULD LOVE SUCH A TRAIN AND WOULD PAY THE FEE OF TRAVEL and FOR EVERY DOLLAR PAID BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC 1/2 THAT DOLLAR WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE VETERANS TRAVEL FUND, IMAGINE SHOPPING AT THE SAN ANTONIO RIVER WALK BY DAY, VIEW A SPURS BASKETBALL GAME AND BE HOME IN TIME TO GO TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING HERE IN THE VALLEY. ITS ALL POSSIBLE, THESE TRAINS EXIST, DO THE RESEARCH. THERES NOTHING BUT MONTE BETWEEN HERE AND SAN ANTONIO.

AND IF YOU DO THE MATH, CHANCES ARE THE TRAIN WOULD PROBABLY SEE A GREAT DEAL OF REVENUE FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC, BUT A VA HOSPITAL WOULD RIGHT A HISTORIC WRONG AND WOULD GREATLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE VALLEYS HONORABLE MEN AND WOMEN HEALTHCARE.

EITHER WAY, THE VALLEY DRUG TREATMENT IS AN ITEM ON THE BACKBURNER AT THIS POINT.

The numbers are staggering on the amount of soldiers that come out of Iraq and into illegal drugs to cope with their PTSD. The Valley is 5 times greater of aquiring drugs than any where in the State. Our kids are trying drugs in Elementary and junior high and something needs to be done. Now, the State has said they understand the needs of this area(poorest area in the nation but BANKING BOOM?) hidden drug economy anyone? It is imparitive to bring a drug treatment center and illeviate the prisons, jails, crimes.
Anyone that doesn't think so needs to get off the pipe and look outside your window on whats happening to our youth!

I want to thank our rep. and the last patrol for walking from Edinburg to San Antonio. It looks like the powers that be are finally paying attention. The drug center will also be a plus for south texas. With the state pulling their weight with the center there is no excuse for the feds not to do the same with the VA hospital.

2:30,
In regards to a Valley Drug Rehab Center, first of all I read countless studies indicating Relapse is apart of Rehab, now now now, Im not declaring a rehab center A far cry from reality. But I believe a VA Hospital is LONG OVERDUE. Today's Military is an all Volunteer Military, but during The Vietnam War our Government Implemented a Draft, now our very own government is stalling to establish a VA HOSPITAL. VA HOSPITAL IS LONG OVERDUE for our HONORABLE MEN AND WOMEN VETERANS. I don't think that a drug rehab center is the answer to the drug epidemic plaguing our communities. Drugs isn't a plague thing, its a get rich thing. How else are those kids who unfortunately live in poverty and are illiterate suppose to live day to day. Half there families are here illegally, they don't know the language too well, let alone the English written laws. The system is set up that way. You take Corporate America, MTV and our Penal Code and WULAH! A street drug vendor is born. The quickest point from Barrio to first class living is to resort to some type of illegal activity in an impoverished community. Drugs is not an epidemic because people rely on there effects, its an epidemic because drug entrepeneurship is evolving from day to day. If You take a poor kid with nothing to lose, and bombard him constantly with various t.v. commercials of products he'll never have the luxory of owning and you will have created a candidate easily to be recruited by the element that inherits such following and that is neighborhood dealers. Its a business whether we'd like to admit it or not and it doesnt seem to be suffering from any stock market dips, wows, or unemployment. These kids get recruited quicker by these dealers as is, than by our own government. So go figure, a drug rehab center will only draw a congregation of users. Thats like placing shoppers at a Mall.

There is a huge difference in the providing of a rehab clinic and the providing for a VA hospital, both in terms of funding and where that funding comes from. The Valley is in desperate need of both. The treatment for those with both drug convictions or addictions is a state funding issue, and while the Feds kick in, the burden is on the State to create. The VA hospital is a Federal issue and requires that Washington not cut the Valley off the map (see the foxnoise reporting and weather map). We need both, we have neither. Anyone that works in the mental health field or with those that need help will tell you that we are one of the most underserved areas of the state, especially with children's mental health and drug issues. There is no question that are veterans have been underserved for decades. Please don't pit one against the other, WE NEED BOTH.

dac,
I agree the valley needs both, but the question that was posed was WHICH did I think was long overdue to our area and my answer was of course the VA Hospital. A Drug Rehab is great on paper, but I'm no physician and All I can speculate is what I've researched and that RELAPSE is apart of REHAB. So that being said, how much tax dollar will go on unnecessary methadone labs? Who knows, What I do know is services like Kidney Dialysis is an every other day treatment that can become rather expensive if one has to travel to and from San Antonio 2 to 3 times a week. NO RELAPSE IN THAT LIFE OR DEATH THERAPY.

To be fair in my critique I must admit drugs have become a Rampant Part of life here and all over the US, But Im gonna venture to say that its broken into classes of drug use:

middle-upper class drug use: Prescription Drugs to Cocaine

lower-Middle class drug use: marijuana-x, roches, acid, cheese, crack, heroin, meth.

lower class- household products, crack, auto fluids, etc.

public rehab centers rarely treat the middle to upper class drug addicts. They usually have private treatment centers.

Lets think of our children for a minute here and discuss what element this Rehab center will attract? Whats the ratio of criminals getting rehabilitated in prison? Doesnt the prison system just get some of these criminals far more advanced at there craft? Will this rehab center migh do the same to the young adults seeking rehabilitation. Edinburg is infested with criminal facilities
3 prisons, 1 on to be rumored
1 juvenile center that was ill equiped with some staff that have since been fired.
1 boot camp.
some of these buildings are far better equiped than most of our public schools. Why dont we as a community do for our youth and there education before we go doing for those who decided NOT to conform to the rules.

2:49 PM

Well to answer your question I have to cover a few Important Details,

First, I'm not answering in RETALIATION of anyone.

Second, Does your question entail Statewide or just in a certain District? Because each District pays there Teachers differently.

I think I know what your question is refering to, and my answer is Teachers work 187 days, so the schedule reads. They have weekends off, holidays off, and most work there 8 hours a day. Now RAISES are a good thing, but they're always going to be THE MEAGER SCRAPS OUR GOVERNOR WIPES OFF HIS TABLE. Did you see how much the Raise was for the Governor. Now to be fair, regardless of State mandated RAISES, We here in TEXAS still have one of the MOST DELAPIDATED SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES and IT AINT OUR DISTRICTS' FAULT. SO try and guess where the breakdown is at.

Lets get one thing very CLEAR and this is a FACT:
WHEN BUDGET CRUNCH COMES AROUND WHO DO YOU THINK THESE POLITICIANS PICK ON BY CUTTING OFF FUNDS TO:
WELL IF ITS A REPUBLICAN HOUSE, SENATE AND WELL THE ENTIRE STATE?

1.YOU CAN KISS OFF WELFARE PROGRAMS
2.CHILDREN SERVICES, EDUCATION, SOCIAL SERVICES ETC.

THE GOLDEN RULE OF POLITICS IS ALWAYS CUT OFF THE AREAS THAT DON'T MATTER TO YOUR CONSTITUENTS OR THAT OF THOSE THAT DIDN'T ELECT YOU. THATS THE REASON MISSION REPUBLICAN MAYOR ALWAYS GETS HIS STATE FUNDS AS OPPOSED TO THE REST OF THE OTHER MAYORS ALONG OUR BORDERS.

KIDS DONT VOTE!! SO A FEW CUTS HERE AND THERE ARENT GONNA MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO ANY POLITICIAN.

SHOOT MAN I SERIOUSLY DOUBT ANY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IS EVEN GONNA ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT DOWN HERE TO THE VALLEY, THEY DONT NEED TO, TEXAS IS ALWAYS IN THE BAG BABY! PURE REPUBLICAN STATE, ITS CONSIDERED NAZI GERMANY, THE WAY OF THE GUN STATE. WE ARE HISPANIC/MEXICANS FIRST, TEXANS SECOND, AMERICANS LAST AND THAT IS WHY THE MEAGER RAISES ARE USELESS WHEN THE SYSTEM IS MADE TO FAIL.

HERES MY ADVICE TO THOSE WHO WANT A CHANGE:
TEACHERS SHOULD HAVE STATE MANDATED DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR(FM EMPLOYEE AND STATE) MATCHED RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS AND CAN USE IT DURING THERE CAREER RATHER THAN JUST AT THE END OF THERE RETIREMENT. FOR EVERY DOLLAR THE TEACHERS ARE DOCKED FOR RETIREMENT, THE STATE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PLACE THESE RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS IN A BANK TO GROW INTEREST. LIKE THE CITY WORKERS OF LOS ANGELES. THE CITY WORKERS' PENSIONS ARE THEN UTILIZED AND INVESTED WITH INVESTMENT FIRMS. THE TEACHERS RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION IS THE MOB, THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THAT SYSTEM AND AFFORD THESE TEACHERS A BETTER INVESTMENT FIRM TO HAVE THERE MONEY WORK FOR THEM. AFTER ALL NOTHING MAKES MORE MONEY THAN MONEY, IT WORKS DAILY WITHOUT CALLING IN SICK OR TAKING ANY DAYS OR HOLIDAYS OFF. WELL THERES MY TAKE ON IT.
