WHAT DOES EDINBURG NEED?

ATTENTION POLITICOS, PUBLIC SERVANTS, AND INTERESTED PARTIES!!!

Get your pen and paper and get ready to take down some notes. Times are getting hotter and our children are spending more time indoors in 70 degree Airconditioned temperatures and Lacking Essential Excercise. High Blood Pressure in children was making headlines the other day, Diabetes dibilitates many hispanics daily, not to mention the poor diets some of these children have due to parents always working or on the go. Not blaming anyone here for the aforementioned. We do what we can for the children, I know that. But our City has some nice parks that lack MATURE TREES FOR SHADE. So what do ya say POLITICOS? Make it happen, Champion the cause. I know children don't VOTE and funds earmarked for them are the first to get the AX when budget constraints hit the fan.

HERE WE GO: REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL LINES, I WILL GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.
1. People Blamed Ochoa for the Water Park failure, but Children loved that place.
2. People Criticize the Palacios, but that family helps sponsor countless Little League Teams.
3. I've seen countless Politicos on the School board and Council participate within the City's Parks and Recs sports.

There I am demonstrating that I hold no ill will towards any faction, And that I represent no personal Interest. My INTEREST IS WHATS BEST FOR THE COMMUNITY. I SUPPORT ALL THAT EDINBURG IS AND REPRESENTS. I AM EDINBURG, WE ARE EDINBURG. NO ONE POLITICAL FIGURE INHERITS THIS COMMUNITY, WE ALL CONTRIBUTE TO THIS COMMUNITY DAILY.

So Heres My ADVICE TO THOSE POWERS THAT BE on WHAT OUR CITY NEEDS:
1. More Mature TREES (LARGE SHADY ONES) PLANTED AT OUR PARKS
2. Getting Families to ADOPT certain Items in the PARKS to help beautify them, make the park a more personal feeling rather than some public mess.
3. Residents need to be assigned RECYCLING GREEN BINS TO BE PICKED UP SEPARATELY FROM OUR TRASH BINS.
4. BEEF UP ANTI GRAFFITI UNITS. Heres a Hint: Most of those TAGGERS (kids spray painting public and private walls or buildings.) wake up at or about 4am to go and Spray Paint deface private and public property.
5. There should be no flooding around the Fountain Park area, the City Has plenty of PUMPS to drain such areas if need be. Lets not just use such equipment on the Up Scale areas. We all pay taxes, we need those services just the same.
6. The intersection of sugar and canton, one word: SHIT!, lets relieve the children in the daycare and elementary across the street. HIGH DOLLAR development being assembled on that road, why cant canton be refurbished?

Hope this helps.
1.We are installing watering systems at our parks. Last year we received a grant to purchase and plant more trees.

2.I think thats a great idea! Maybe I will suggest that all of our parks get put up for adoption.(families, clubs, etc.)

3.We are working now on a pilot program for those type of bins.

4. We have two trucks that run all day. The summer is always tough. Kids are out of school. We see this every summer. PD is doing some undercover to catch taggers.

5. The problem we are having in that area is the construction on Exp. 281. Drain solutions should be on board soon! The problem with that area is that it is one of the lowest spots on the eastside.

6.Canton is going to be refurbished. Thats what we are designing as I type. Beleive me when I say we are all over this one.

Hope this answers some of these questions.

BRAVO! Mr.Espinoza, thats all us voters wanna hear. We aren't rich folk trying to persuade policy, we just like to see that our roads, parks and community are worth our tax dollar. A WAR once broke out some time back about Taxation without Representation, so that being said, if we're gonna get billed for it, we'd like to get some good use out of it. We're not here to BASH anyone, just would like the best interest of the public served. By the way, whats the status on the Relocation of BAROID? The New City Hall is looking rather impressive, but I'm ashamed of what has become of the surrounding area. Pothole city, Drug infestation, just drive around The School Districts Central Office. Delapidated homes, Crack Houses, Deplorable living just a block away from A University that Seems to be Growing by the day. What can be done about that?

Baroid is a one we are trying to tackle! 6th street is in bad condition. I have told staff not to invest too much money on this road till we figure out what they are going to do. We "EDC" has offered some incentives to get them to move to the North Industrial Park but nothing yet. Wish I had better news on that one. As to the living conditions in the area, we have started a new inspection program that hopefully will address those issues. Thanks for asking.

Mr.Espinoza,
I read in the paper months back Baroid was relocating its Edinburg Operations to Mission. FACT or CHISME? Since those Million Dollar Landfill hazardous sites in Missioin have payed out lawsuits to those residents that resided in or around those contaminated areas, Are Edinburg Residents taking cue from our neighbors west of us?
Now I also understand the big piece of land just North/East on the intersection of Schunior and Closner is also one Contaminated site too. I know that TIDE was once located there, and I believe that piece of property at one point had ties to the Bentsen Family as in Lloyd Bentsen. Maybe thats why Edinburg never made a bill investment on that piece of property or Investigation as to why its so contaminated. Well nevertheless, the All American Bar and what use to be Jaime's Store just south of that Eyesore Bar is creating one large plaguing epidemic. Theres been witnesses discovering syringes, condoms, and drug paraphanalia just behind that Bar. Its an Eyesore, but the city will not shut it down, due to having only renters west of it. And those renters just so happen to be section 8 or low income housing. 10th street is slowly but surely becoming zoned for commercial now that the County pretty much owns from the courthouse all the way to peter street. College students could really use that area for nice dwellings. That eyesore bar and the old jaimes store is just sitting there contaminating the area just as the big piece of contaminated property north east of schunior and closner. Now Mr.Espinoza, I'm not trying to rattle anyone's chain, but its only fair that no matter the social economic status of the area, that the people (voters) get the aesthetics those upper echelon residents recieve. That is why I blog, so that the people can have a voice. Not all the residents have access to a computer, blogs, or the internet, but they should all have access to an open government and better community.

I had not heard that they are moving to Mission, but that doesnt mean they are not. I will ask our EDC. As to the sites, if they are contaminated we have to figure they are that way because they were chemical companies. I would support any investigation on any property in Edinburg (Bentsen or not)As to the living conditions for the certian social status. I ALWAYS fight for the same treatment East, West, South, or North side. Now as to Jaimes store and the American Bar, I will file request for inspection. Remember I spent almost all my childhood days in that area, back then it was Russell's Toy Store. I will always treat everybody equal. If there is a concern on any city matter, anybody can call city hall and get my cell number.

Mr.Espinoza,
Well thats acceptable, and thats all we ask for. Action by our elected officials that gets results. Back when Russels toy store was around, the west side was a more afluent white side of town. At one point it was all nearly white and only whites were attending Sam Houston Elementary. Mr.Russel was a very nice man, he'd let us shoot the BB Guns on Display inside the store targets. And not to mention Good Ol Mr.Brooks, PAN AM Basketball COACH Legend, whom also lived there west of closner on schunior. These were good people living in a very nice community, but now its quite the opposite. That part of town your from and the west side has developed many political figures: Charlie Espinoza, You, Alejos Salinas, Pete Rodriguez, Jaime Chavana, etc. yet the conditions of that area haven't changed for the best. I remember Ricks quick stop stores, first place with video cassettes, laundry mats, sunshine store, economy store, but now with Fast Eddies, Mr.Chanin has developed that building with JJs Party house too. That building once occupied by state govt agencies, is now nice and has a good atmosphere, but now you have another bar just north of it, and to have another bar just south of it as well, is a bit overkill. I wonder what the likes of Mr.Brooks, McClarie, Russel, Hughes, Walsh, Decker, Bonus, Blackburn, Phillips and Birch would say to these conditions? The aforementioned families once occupied the very same area I just mentioned. They were different days, with different residents, and I guarantee those people wouldn't of had to put up with such dilemas as to having 3 bars in there neighborhood.

I agree with that! I have voted against all those bars in that area. By the way those families mentioned are probably turning in their graves. I will continue to monitor that area. We just finished a paving program in that area.

Mr.Espinoza,
The council at one point closed down that Dorado Bar that was located by La Rodriguez on Raul Longoria Road, why can't the same be done about that All American Bar? Is it because Noe Garza and The All American Bar Owner are good buddies? They use to be neighbors.

El Dorado bar was shut down at change of owners. We took advantage of this time and shut it down. Now, if there is enough complaints on any bar we could ask TABC to look into problems at any location. If am not mistaken we just renewed their permit under a public hearing and had no bad marks.

Well just because theres no complaints doesn't necessarily make it a safe or pleasant site. RAZA doesn't complain in the low socio-economic areas, and thats a fact, just look over the police logs. The East side rarely relies on the police or political authorities to handle there disputes. The area of that All American Bar is no different. It has become such a bad element. Drug use, sale, and recklessness has become the norm. Property Values went up not too long ago, shouldn't the asthetics go up in value as well? Don't wait to here complaints, would you like that Bar in your neighborhood? We think that area needs some serious addressing.

Like I said in earlier post, i will ask inspectors to look at this areas(already did). Oh, and you are right I wouldnt want it next to my home. I must say that we need everybody to be looking out for their respected areas, all it takes is a concern and I (we) will address it. I think you're take on the RAZA is wrong, I get phone calls all the time from the East side.
