POLITICA IN EDINBURG SCHOOLS?

Well summer is gone and yet another school year is upon us. I have been noticing some strange coincidences or politica in the Edinburg Schools for quite some time now, yet there wasn't anyone in the school system who would admit to it, then all of a sudden a friend of a friend came forth and started to divulge some interesting tid bits about the going ons in our very own schools from elementary to high schools. I must warn you that what I heard was not at all suprising to me, in fact I had plenty of clues to piece together in the past as to what this teacher had tried confirming.

Some of the tid bit of information: Was that Teachers' children got preferential treatment and better placement. For example she said that those Teachers who worked in the same school had the best teachers hand picked to teach there very own kids, as opposed to the whole: parents have to wait for the first day of class in order to peak at there childrens' course schedule or teachers. Now I'm not insinuating that there are teachers better than others, but I am stating that the proof is in the testing results, and those teachers who constantly recieve State Recognition are usually handpicked by there peers to teach there own children regardless if there kids are capable of handling the required workload. This is known to be a common practice among these elementary teachers, I guess some type of code I guess. Oh and not to mention the awards ceremonies, these teachers' and administrators' kids get so many awards that they even have to create new awards just to present them. One child of an administrator once was said to have recieved 21 awards in one day and who did the presenting of those awards, none other than her own parent. WOW! I was floored at this point, I had to repeadetly ask if this individual was joking or were these in fact true stories.

This one teacher also went into detail as to which teachers' or administrator' kids got to get the parts in the school plays, extra curricular activities, school sports, UIL, etc. OK by this time I was in complete disgust as to how SOME of these people were getting away with such POLITICA B.S. So did I take one person's experience with a grain of salt? Of Course I did, so I called a few parents I know that work for the District that Have had there children Graduate already from HighSchool and What do you think they said? "SURE THESE THINGS HAPPEN EVERY YEAR." "I EVEN HAD TO PASS A KID JUST BECAUSE I WORKED WITH HER MOTHER AND THE KID WAS A CHEERLEADER" were there quotes.

SICK! was the first words that came to mind after hearing all this utter b.s. Some of our very own kids will be alienated from competitions, Good CLASSROOM Teachers, Good Groups, and well just about anything that takes place in school due to the untold practice of such POLITICA.

Our kids deserve better! One parent told me that she was a judge in a cheerleading trouts competition and that and I QUOTE HER here, "This one short husky girl just couldn't jump to save her life and that is why I couldn't give her the points for her to make the squad." But it resulted in chaos after the tryouts, the Mother (teacher with the district) of the one cheerleader who couldn't make the squad ended up making death threats to the judge in the parking lot.

Now does this type of practice only occur in Edinburg? I'd be ignorant to think so. Now do some of you guys feel this is highly unlikely? How many of you guys flat out deny such practices going on in our very own schools? Some of the stories I heard from more than 8 credible sources that in fact work for the district at all levels.

Well for those who are finding it difficult to believe such statements, heres an idea: If you're in doubt that POLITICA exists in your child's school, do one of the following observations and please come on here and blog the results, you may do so ANONYMOUS. Heres some helpful observation tips to discover POLITICA in our children's schools:

1. WATCH for the children of teachers that work at that particular school taking up every extra curricular activity, making every event in the top 2, being chosen as the lead for any school play regardless of talent.

2. KEEP track of which teachers are the RECOGNIZED teachers in the SCHOOL, chances are there peers children will be in there class regardless of test scores.

3. AWARDS CEREMONY: Teachers' children in the same school take home more awards than Michael Jackson in the 80's Music Awards.

4. ALWAYS, but Always will these teachers' children be given preferential treatment in the very schools that there mommy or daddy work in.

HERES MY ADVICE TO THESE TEACHER PARENTS:
Get over it already!! If your kids got it they got it, the awards, better classes, better teachers, and extra curricular activity roles will come eventually, but if you as a teacher have to be there to insure that POLITICA is on your side in order to try to build some type of foundation for your child, well I guess you're just gonna have to keep following your child through every grade I guess.

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO DISCLOSED SUCH DETAILS ABOUT THIS TYPE OF PRACTICE; ALTHOUGH, ONLY A SELECTED FEW PRACTICED DOING THIS, IT GIVES MANY A BAD NAME AND THATS JUST NOT RIGHT.

Speaking as a parent of a daughter and son that go/went to the same school that my wife teaches at, you are not being accurate. Yes they got to go to the same school she teaches at, however you forget that most teachers have to arrive early and stay way late on a daily basis. Having their kids on campus allows them to able to put in those extra "FREE" hours. Example, Student Council, Cheerleading, UIL,PTA,PTO,Choir,TAKS Tutoring,Spelling Bee,SBDM,etc...

Now that these kids (mine included) get by with free passes is crazy! My kids have to struggle just like the next one. Both of my kids do well in school, but that’s because we work with them at home!!!!! Not because their teacher gives them free grades. In fact both of my kids took tutoring classes to pass TAKS. Both of my kids have tried out for things and didn't get in! They tried their best and we were proud of them for trying!

It’s the school that gets recognized not one teacher, it takes one total effort! By the way, both of my kids got reprehended at school if they did something wrong (forget homework, talking, playing around, you know kids stuff). So I think you need to narrow your broad comments!

Mr.Espinoza,
The Generalization of such comments do not warrant any apologies nor do I consider every case the same. Most cases will vary which I understand, but Those scenarios weren't MY EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS, they were witnesses whom have experienced such things in our district. Again, I have stated in the past, I will not come on here to MAKE UP lousy "hear say" remarks about any political or public figure, BUT I WILL ADVOCATE THE GENERAL PUBLIC. This is a dilema to some extent, to those parents who are unaware of such POLITICAL afilations causing preferential treatment, this is simply a reminder of what possibly is occuring in some parts of the district. AGAIN, a few may ruin the reputation of a district, but to NEGATE that these incidents ever occured is an injustice to the citizens. These incidents were witnessed by DISTRICT EMPLOYEES in the ADMINISTRATION, TEACHING, and CENTRAL OFFICE areas, NOW AM I SUPPOSE TO DOUBT THEM? I'm sure if you confided in someone and told them an incident about city business, I'm sure you'd be considered a very CREDIBLE SOURCE, wouldn't you?

And about some Teachers getting STATE RECOGNITION, that is in fact TRUE. Some campuses get state recognition for scores and what hav you (ie Recognized, Exemplarary etc) but some teachers get voted as BEST OF THE BEST among other teachers in the District as well as the STATE. I know of a few teachers that have been Recognized by the STATE as well as there DISTRICT for there OUTSTANDING SERVICE. And those teachers my friend are usually pegged by there co-workers to teach there very own biological children. ITS BEEN WITNESSED on MANY OCCASSIONS FIRST HAND AND BY MANY WHO WORK AMONG THEM. It's just like the more AFLUENT citizens getting better CITY services in our very own city. TRUE or FALSE? ARE THERE ANY WEEDY LOTS in Afluent Up Scale Neighborhoods?NO, Now now now you might argue that HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS cure that Problem, but in fact it's the CITY that performs such services as well. Go to the RODRIGUEZ NEIGHBORHOOD in East Edinburg and witness first hand how many weedy lots are available.

And about being ACCURATE, one can never be 100% accurate about anything these days, but its not to say that POLITICA in our DISTRICT doesn't exist. I understand fighting the good fight is always appealing to the ears of the voters, but sometimes you gotta tell them the TRUTH. And the TRUTH is what sets the problems free. Now you're statement rings some personal truth, and I comend you for using your own accounts as a bases for objection, but as they say in Spanish, "Uno no puede tapar el Sol con un dedo." which really means, cmon Mr.Espinoza, some of these statements by District Employees are in fact true and it can't be addressed, because those supposedly in charge are the ones doing it. So the best we can do is ILLUSTRATE IT, FYI.

Nepotism and Politics is always out of hand in the Edinburg School District, JEHS has multiple families working there. Its totally bullshit to have to put up with it being that I work there, but it exists anyway. It seems like the coaches want to run everything.

2:17pm,
Nepotism is very popular among our culture, we do for our families in every way possible. As you can see I've included myself as well, but there is a fine line people tend to flirt with from time to time. Do for your family all you want, but lets also keep in mind that when it comes to TAXPAYER MONEY, CITIZENS ARE THE BOSS, CONTRARY to what some ADMINISTRATORS, POLITICIANS, or PUBLIC OFFICIALS MIGHT THINK. And that is when NEPOTISM becomes well you fill in the blank.
Recruiting one's own family to the job front is not rare among Valleyites, but when the whistle is blown, that person blowing the whistle is considered by those doing such things a FINGER or DEDO, and those people labeled as such find it difficult to escape such labels.

HERES MY ADVICE ABOUT NEPOTISM:
If you the TAXPAYER are guilty of it, then you will tolerate it.

If you the POLITICIAN is guilty of it, then you will gain from it.

If you the PUBLIC OFFICIAL is guilty of it, then you will sacrifice your position for it.

BUT if you are AGAINST IT, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT:

VOTE OUT THE CROOKED POLITICO.
FIRE THE CROOKED PUBLIC SERVANT.
CALL THE MEDIA AND REPORT IT.

You see here is what many political officials rely on:
The General Public has an attention span of 15 minutes and with time the general public forgets just about anything in public meetings ie city council meetings or school board meetings, that is why some of these politicos or wanna bee politicos employ bloggers, papers, or political strategists to help REMIND THE GENERAL PUBLIC or BEAT THE PUBLIC OVER THE HEAD WITH SUCH NEWS CONSTANTLY, UNTIL WE THE VOTERS ARE PICKED UP TO GO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY. So if Compadreismo is going on during the off periods (non-election times) then the politicians know damn well they have some time to make up for such tolerant attitude towards nepotism or they may as well benefit from employing a whole family under one roof in the form of votes. Either way the politico is savvy enough as to WHEN TO START PAVING ROADS, KISSING BABIES, PACHANGIANDO and KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR. CLASSIC POLITICO TACTICS 101. BUT IN THE END YOU THE VOTER ARE THE BOSS, no need to kiss there butts, THEY WORK FOR US....NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

I don't think that nepotism is a matter that is explained as a culture issue. Politics is fraught with nepotism all over, including Washington, the UN and nations around the world.

I am not saying it is not a problem.

It is wrong to eat Beef in India where they hold the Cow to be Sacred. Here in America we can careless and have ourselves a good juicy burger.

That just means, we in Edinburg label things as such, "who cares what happens in D.C., we here in Edinburg feel that too many family members are recruiting themselves for the good jobs in government."

dac,
the aforementioned is just an example of how people percieve the very word or action of NEPOTISM. You and I can probably blog some interesting details about such word or its actual definition, but in the end it really doesn't matter what gun the kid is holding, the dilema here is that the kid is actually holding a gun right? Well Nepotism here is percieved or labeled as POLITICA, which some believe applies to how our Culture here in the Valley help one another of our family members before anyone else. Some feel this city is being divided among a selected few factions and that if you're in those factions that you are to reap the rewards, while others find it difficult to penetrate such factions find themselves without a network to operate with. One example is, mobile phones are great to have, well at least til the bill comes around right? but without the service what is the phone really good for. So keep in mind that there are millions of people in our country with mobile phones, but there are only a selected few that provide the service for them to operate. A NETWORK is highly important to anyone here in Edinburg or in D.C. But if a network only helps a selected few get in office or in jobs, well then the rest of those out of the network feel disenchanted or disgruntled, hence the negative ad campaigns of bloggers such as enews, they try to leverage there party in power opposing other factions to rule. POLITICA, NETWORK, SYNDICATE, NEPOTISM, COMPADRISMO, CLICK, PARTY, or whatever word you'd like to use today still describes the same thing. The aforementioned labels are great if you are in fact apart of it, but when you are not, then all you can do is feel disgust. Our people here in Edinburg use nepotism to some degree at times to preserve there very own network as do the Royals well in just about any country there is a royal family. "We shall pave the road for our children" is the saying, and that is how it works. Is it right or wrong, well depends on who you ask and it also depends on whos in power.
