DISTRICT 40 CORRECTION!!!

STATE REP. Aaron Pena VS POLITICAL STRATEGIST Kelly Fero
FOR DISTRICT 40

"We here at THE POLITICAL RING were looking forward to seeing a FAIR AND BALANCED HONEST RACE ON THE REMATCH OF PENA v SAENZ II. Seems like One candidate has unleashed the BIG GUN. REACH will be one of the most important ingredients to this race. Good luck to both Candidates oh and The Big Gun too."

Top Democratic strategist signs on for Saenz

By Steve Taylor

EDINBURG, September 18 - Kelly Fero, one of the top Democratic strategists in Texas, has signed on as a campaign consultant to House District 40 candidate Eddie Saenz.
Saenz, a 47-year-old civil engineer, ran for the District 40 seat in the Democratic primary in 2004 but lost easily to incumbent Rep. Aaron Peña, D-Edinburg. Saenz picked up 36 percent of the vote, Peña, a 48-year-old attorney, secured 64 percent.
Fero, who has worked in the past with state Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, state Rep. Veronica Gonzales, D-McAllen, and Hidalgo County Judge J.D. Salinas, says he believes things will be different in 2008.
“It’s a new day and I think the voters of District 40 want a new direction. The dynamics have changed,” Fero said.
“The leadership climate in Texas is increasingly in a state of flux. We are in a state of transformation and people are looking for something new. Without being supercritical of Aaron, he is on the wrong side of history in supporting Tom Craddick.”
A former award-winning journalist and author, Fero has worked with governors and other top elected officials around the country. In Texas, he is perhaps best known for his work on the campaigns of former Comptroller John Sharp. Sharp backed Saenz in the 2004 election.
Fero, who lives in Austin, was raised in Argentina and speaks Spanish fluently. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from UNAM, the national university in Mexico City. He has worked as a communications strategist for both Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo and presidential candidate Francisco Labastida. He has also written influential studies Texas-Mexico border issues.
In the 2004 campaign, Peña portrayed Saenz as a business-friendly, closet Republican. Peña had served just one term in the House and was viewed as a staunch Democrat loyal to Democratic Caucus leader Jim Dunnam, D-Waco. Once he had beaten Saenz, Peña took a different path, pledging support for Craddick, the Republican House speaker.
At the start of the 2007, Peña gave a nomination speech for Craddick and voted for him in a contentious speaker’s race at the start of the session. He was rewarded with the chairmanship of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.
By the end of a fraught session, some Craddick Ds, such as Reps. Patrick Rose, D-Dripping Springs, and Eddie Lucio III, D-Harlingen, had deserted the speaker. Another Craddick D, Rep. Joe Deshotel, D-Beaumont, led a walkout from the House chamber after Craddick refused to recognize members who wanted to oust him.
Peña stayed loyal to Craddick throughout, and, in an interview with the Guardian at the end of the session, said being a member of the leadership team paid big dividends for the Rio Grande Valley and his district.
“As difficult as it was, we far exceeded our expectations. We really did. It was a success beyond any other region of the state,” Peña said. “Clearly, our position in the leadership team helped.”
Peña pointed to the additional $5 million appropriated to the Regional Academic Health Center, $3 million for a substance abuse facility in Edinburg, $750,000 for the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg, and $45 million for a Department of Public Safety center in Hidalgo County.
Fero said it was clear Peña would not be able to cast Saenz as the Republican-friendly candidate this time.
“Aaron swift-boated Eddie in 2004. That is not going to happen this time,” Fero said. “In fact, Aaron is going to have a hard time painting anyone but himself as being in bed with the Republicans. He may have run as a Democrat but he has voted as a Republican.”
Times do appear to have changed since 2004. Back then, Saenz and his supporters claimed Peña was a back bench bomb thrower who could not pass legislation because he would not work with the House leadership. Responding to early criticism from Saenz this time round, Peña has said his opponent would not be effective if he positioned himself as “a back-bencher bomb-thrower.”
Fero said Peña would try to claim he had achieved much for his district by being a member of the leadership team. He said the claims would not stand up to close scrutiny. “The fact is that District 40 is still one of the poorest districts in the state,” Fero said.
Fero said Saenz could legitimately challenge Peña on two important issues – his performance on restoring cuts to the Children’s Health Insurance Program and his absence on a key vote for a Voter ID bill supported by Republicans.
Peña has said the Craddick D’s played a crucial role in changing the eligibility rules so that tens of thousands of children could be re-enrolled in CHIP. “The Democrats for Reform negotiated and fought for CHIP every step of the way. We were turned down multiple times. We negotiated and we succeeded,” Peña told the Guardian.
Fero said District 40 voters would see through such comments. “CHIP enrollment is still not close to what it was. It is still a huge challenge that Aaron has not been up to,” Fero said.
On the voter ID bill, Fero pointed out that Peña missed a crucial vote in April on an amendment offered by Dunnam that would have exempted citizens aged 65 from over from having to provide more forms of ID in order to vote. The amendment was defeated by just one vote, 73-72, with the vote mostly breaking along party lines.
Peña missed the vote because he was giving a speech about crime victims in McAllen. “He could have given that speech any day of the week. When it came to voting against the Voter ID bill that Republicans wanted, Aaron was nowhere to be seen,” Fero said.
Fero said District 40 voters would look more favorably at Saenz this time round because he has shown the leadership skills necessary to be effective in Austin.
“Eddie is a community leader with knowledge of infrastructure projects that are critical to the area. He has been creating jobs for many years and knows all about health care.”

I read that too. By the sound of the article, you could swear that Fero is the one running for office and not Saenz.

We here at THE POLTICAL RING aren't endorsing any Candidate in particular, but with such RACIST REMARKS, You have to ask yourself if in fact Mr. Saenz is making a wise choice in afiliating himself with the RIDICULOUS SMUT CAMPAIGN OF A BLOG?

Terrorists preach hate, Racist Preach hate, and NOW we HAVE A BLOG DOING THE SAME THING. Are those choice in WORDS REALLY NECESSARY?

What a Shame for people to have to resort to such RACIST REMARKS for MONETARY GAIN. Yep thats right, someone is getting paid after using such insulting racist remarks, NOW who's actually paying this SMUT CAMPAIGNING BLOG? WELL all you do if follow the ATTACKS AND WHO THEY'RE NOT ATTACKING.

THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN THING, ITS AN IGNORANT THING ON enews' PART. enews IS LUCKY THAT OUR AFRICAN AMERICAN POPULATION DOESN'T CARE TO TUNE INTO SUCH AN IDIOTIC BLOG BECAUSE I GUARANTEE YOU THAT THOSE RACISTS OVER AT enews WOULD HAVE HAD TO USE A BETTER CHOICE IN WORDS.

"MUST have FLEXIBLE MORALS" is used to expain how ALL politicians have TO VOTE and WHEN DOING SO, Some are Benefiting while others aren't. Thats a FACT. Heres an example of a law that was voted on by the Powers that be:

Roe v Wade
Pro-life or Pro Choice

either way you vote on something like that, your morals have to be flexible.

Predominantly Democrats vote Pro-Choice while Republicans vote Pro-Life. WHO'S RIGHT? Does your choice on this issue reflect your political party? I think some people are basing MORALS on a more personal level when judging the candidate they know best. But I'm not trying to label a candidate, here Im labeling Politicians in general. An Attorney HAS TO BE FLEXIBLE with MORALS: If they are going to defend a murderer or child rapist, they HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE WITH THE WHOLE MORAL ISSUE. Now is PENA or SAENZ a bad person due to MORALS or PRINCIPLES? NO, and thats not what I mean, here, But IN GENERAL POLITICIANS HAVE TO AND MUST BE FLEXIBLE WHEN IT COMES TO MORALS AND PRINCIPLES, whatever word works for you.

POLITICS is the art of Decieving to some degree. Greeks invented such art. Theres a science to it, but theres no right or wrong. Its just what you're willing to tolerate. If you're a Republican and feel every girl should be pro-life then thats your stance, but if your Democrat and feel every girl should have the right to choose, then thats your stance. NO RIGHT OR WRONG until you have to PASS A LAW on the ISSUE Right? So Roe v. Wade has some winners and some victims. You cant win em all. Flexibility helps politicians survive the political climate at the capitol. Pena was able to side with republicans on occassion to help implement his idea and good for him and our community. Pena demonstrated great preseverance in achieving something he felt his community needed and that showed a clear flexibility in principle as well as morals.

And the outcome to such Flexibility paid large dividends for the District he serves. Ignorance would have pitted Pena against ALL THOSE WITH THE LABEL OF REPUBLICAN, and how was our community suppose to garner such facility?

"If an Eye for an Eye, then we're all blind, where are we going?"

big and black,
if that is in fact your online name, Im sure you might be afiliated with enews and are only here to clear things up about enews using such remarks, but for the sake of answering, here's the definition sir and thanks for your response. I'm sure you'll be back with different names and different remarks.

DEFINITION OF UNCLE TOM

Uncle Tom- is a pejorative for an African American who is perceived by others as behaving in a subservient manner to White American authority figures, or as seeking ingratiation with them by way of unnecessary accommodation. The term Uncle Tom comes from the title character of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, although there is debate over whether the character himself is deserving of the pejorative attributed to him.[1]

It is commonly used to describe black people whose political views or allegiances are considered by their critics as detrimental to blacks as a group.

big and black,
Oh and one more thing, so if Hispanic teenagers are out let say in a public place and they want to listen to rap music(for example Rap Artist 50 cent)and they want to dress like 50 cent, dance like 50 cent, and talk like 50 cent can those Hispanic teenagers converse with one another in public using the N word, the name Uncle Tom, or any racist remark for that matter? Since they are not using it to describle African Americans, they are in fact using the words to converse with another Hispanic teen mimicking there favorite rap artist. Lets not be ignorant here. Just because enews is using the name Uncle Tom to describe a Hispanic doesn't negate the fact thats offensive at any level. YOU CANT PUT A PRICE ON IGNORANCE CAN You?

E-News, Endorses Aaron Pena!!!

A Change Of Heart

After evaluating the situation. We here at Edinburg News feel that Strength and Experience do matter. I am a die hard democrat. I will vote democrat over a republican any day.

Eddie Saenz feels that a vote for a republican is not out of the question. That being said! I feel that Aaron Pena has the Experience and will continue to do what's right for his district. Even if he did vote Republican! I can see how a vote for a Republican Speaker means more goodies for our dist.

Let's continue to give our support and vote for a more experienced St. Rep. We ask that you join us in supporting and voting for Aaron Pena!

This will run in newspaper soon! Thanks E-News for your support!

I see what the black knight wants to say, that enews is not saying that Mr. Pena is not being called a rascist but traitor to his people. Is that the basis of the campaign? That one candidate is more of a Mexican than the other? I certainly hope not. What is it that Mr. Saenz has or will provide that Mr. Pena has not? What are the real issues in the campaign? Are their any? Or will it just be name calling and who has been in bed with who? Help us out Ring Master.

dac,
Who's more Mexican? Republican or Democrat? These are all Smoke Screens to the REAL HIDDEN AGENDA as TO WHY SOMEONE SEEKS PUBLIC OFFICE. The real reasons behind seeking office is not for the citizens, issues, or whatever cause you would like to throw in. Actually the choice is quite simple, IT IS FOR POWER AND MONEY, THATS IT! A candidate only cares about a very selective few things and that is there Position, Fianancial Stability and most of all FAMILY.

Everything else is window dressing, promises, hoopla, and rah rah rah. Power is a drug and its a powerful one at that. Deciding the fate of many, deciding what is to be law for all, to decide what interests are going to be met. These are all an afrodesiac to movers and shakers. People actually wait in line to give you barrels full of money from all directions, who wouldnt love that?
If you are in busines and you just got elected, guess what business is going to do well while you're in office? YEP, YOURS!

Every POLITICIAN in D.C. Serves on some form of Board Pubicly or Privately owned. And that is where the Pork Barrel and TROF comes into play. Politicians live a very comfortable life, its ROME all over again. Why work hard for your money, when you can just go be a yes man and get elected? Hence the reason I mentioned FLEXIBLE PRINCIPLES.

REPUBLICAN QUOTE:
"Do for us in power and you too shall Share with us a piece of the good ol Big Business American Pie."

"Why worry about the peasant workers, they don't vote, and how are they gonna help you benefit your family. Dont worry the money will TRICKLE down eventually. Muahahaha!!"

DEMOCRAT Quote:
"Do for the People, social justice, social programs to benefit those in need. Represent the everyday WORKER."

"People have rights and the right to a fair share of the American Pie is the American way."

PICK the quote that describes your political and personal ideology and that'll be your stance.

My ADVICE:
Our Government has been taken by the Market not the other way around. Our National, State, and Local Government operate as a Corporation, a business, where do each of us fit in? Is the more important question rather that minimizing everything going on around us to just two labels (REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT) talk about a horse with blinders on.

It really doesn't matter who wins the District 40 race since they are both Democrat then Right? Because we here in Democrat-ville are all, well DEMOCRAT. Yeah! So why all the bickering, finger pointing or mudslinging? Its not like a Darth Vader Like Republican has penetrated our Democrat Defense Force Field here on the Planet D-40 (D representing District for short). So why all the hysteria about who's going to win the District 40 race? RELAX, A DEMOCRAT IS ON THE TICKET! NO PROBLEM!!

Pardon the heavy Sarcasm in the aforementioned, its just that crazy sometimes around here in a bucket full of Democrats. (Think about that one for while)Democrats pulling eachother down all the time.

Shouldn't we be focusing on REAL ISSUES? I mean just a thought? Since Political Party isn't going to be a problem right? I mean we either pick Pena or Saenz, so its like a True and False test of just 1 question. Who's True and Who's False right. EASY! We the people should ACE this one right? Well, its only one question, 2 choices, and to decide as to what the correct answer is gonna involve some research right? Well people get out there and research which CANDIDATE is RIGHT FOR YOU Before you go guessing which answer is right.

It's beyond a "democrat" thing, political ring. A vote for Pena is a vote for the status quo, meaning the continued brew ha ha in the House of Reps with Craddick at the helm. In one of your first blogs, you didn't give a rats ass who Craddick is and why is it important for us here in district 40. It's important because this is the man in charge of the house, and he controls the flow of legislation, what gets on the appropriations bill (including cuts in CHIP and Medicaid, no teacher pay raise, no increase to the minimum wage), and sets the tone and atmosphere of the House. Go back and view the meltdown that occurred in the House 3 days before the end of session and you'llsee with your own eyes a glimpse of the corruption and conniving nature of Craddick.

I'm just curious, but what exactly has the democratic party done for us in the Valley? Can someone please remind me? thanks.

11:20 AM
Blogger DAC said...

Despite the end fighting, I don't think the Valley is better served by the Republican Party principles if that is the implication of the comment above. What does another national party have to offer? After all Cameron County has more of a "two party system" and have thier communities or governments lacked for problems or scandals?

The problem in the Valley is not the national debate of Rep. Vs Demo., what we see illustrated in many of the blogs or blog comments is the local struggle between competing interests and often the groups that are either aligned (or simply opposed) with those interests or aligned individuals. ( I will leave out the old Greek City-State mentality for now)

Perhaps if there were some current, relevant issues. I have heard a few of the sound bytes, but nothing of substance. While I think there are many changes that need to be made, what legislation was needed and not attempted? What issues were ignored? What legislation was were spearheaded, pushed (passed or failed) and what was passed.

desparately seeking something,

I'm just curious, but what exactly has the democratic party done for us in the Valley? Can someone please remind me? thanks.

DSS,
What Democratic Party has done for us here in the Valley? NOTHING, its a label that helps people identify with a party or logo, do you remember the terms ROME, CAMELOT, ATLANTIS, NAZI, COMMUNISM, SOCIALISTS, well its that type of POWERFUL LABEL. We're just people working to matter is all. Some enjoy the whole label thing, but the party helps those partaking in the political process.

Just the way Abraham Lincoln is accredited with Freeing the Slaves. Did he? Did slavery cease to exist back then? Doubtful huh? well thats just it, people take what they want from reading exerps or history books. But very few ever read the fine print. Many of us love to read the headlines and base our interpretations on that type of news. But very few ever read the laws that actually created such ways of living. Those laws are either too long, too confusing, or plain too boring.

So, I can't sit here and Explain all the Democratic party has done for persay one city individually, nor can I come on here and declare that one party is far better than the other.

In the END of it all, it boils down to each persons roof. And what I mean by that is, it all depends what were the teachings under your roof growing up. Political, Religion, cultural, or what have you were all either dictated or delegated at some point under the roof of your home, by well anyone of leadership representation to you.

So if you're asking what a certain party did for you or your city, well then you're political ideology isn't being represented hence the reason I posted the PREAMBLE PLATFORM for each of the 2 dominant political parties in our Country. Read them over and decide which political ideology best describes yours and that of your upbringing. And that is how people should identify with a political party rather than just resorting to some label, symbol or jargon spewing from some candidate's mouth. Remember each candidate will use either label of the two political dominant parties in our Country, but we must never forget that they also serve an interest and those interests of their own as well. But the ideology remains constant.
