ELECTION PREDICTIONS AND COMMENTS
Hoopla has been abuzz about the latest polls, debates, spin, articles, ads, etc. but nobody is making predictions. So here at The Political Ring, we'd like to take this moment to lay out some comments about some interesting races, candidates, political scenarios and of course some gripes about the going ons in our very own backyard Edinburg.
1st the Gripes in Edinburg, and this is to WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
1. East Side of Town at Night gots the parking lot at the Plaza where Bealls is at pitch dark, lets light em up there boys. Nice renovation, but I think some light would make it not only safer but more appealing to the eye.
2. East Side needs more aesthetics, come one those delapidated 1920's businesses still rock i guess, but come on, those business just west of El Fenix Bakery need a make over, come on keep up with the times. Clean up or shut down, its that simple.
3. Alamo Draft House? cricket cricket cricket.....enuff said
4. Seems to me that only Rodz, Los Lagos and Social Club get all the buzz now a days, any reason why? Anybody have an answer to this?
5. City Hall, Come on now, the Pyramids in Egypt got built quicker.....whats the deal? Have any projects been finished. Supposedly the new administration was gonna beef it up and make Edinburg look like beverly hills or something like it. Again, Cricket cricket cricket....
Now to the political comments
Clinton v Obama: You got A white woman vs a black man, and some people see it as just that and thats sad to say. But it seems Latinos are having a really big problem electing a black man, dont believe me, research the numbers up to this point.
Prediction: Hillary and Bill get the nomination, Obama will be President some day, just not this time around. He's young, eloquent and sounds alot like one of those charismatic pastors that has you attending his services reaching into your pockets just giving whatever dollar amount he asks for, for the church building fund....Great Audio, but need more action. I think Obama is a political superstar, but do we really wanna miss him? Think about it, JFK, RFK, MLK etc all shared the same style and eloquence of that of obama and all died horrific deaths. Just think of the National Chaos that would erupt if someone took a shot at obama in office? NFL NBA MLB ENTERTAINMENT AFRICAN AMERICAN WOULD NOT STAND FOR IT, and would cause a severe blow to our market. Sounds Shallow? Well open your eyes, they even took a shot at The Republican Ronald Reagan. They took out Pakistan Opposition in Pakistan, they took out opposition in Russia (spy drugged on national news), they've taken out beloved icons here in our country too. Obama getting the nomination may sound great, but Black vs white just aint gonna work this coming election. Democrats may like the idea of change, but in political reality, this problem we're in doesnt fix in the next 4 years and thats the sad truth.
McCain: Dude! they this ol fighter pilot/p.o.w. 5'6 ish still gots some fire or conservatives just dont want model mitt mormon in the white house. Republicans tend to vote on tradition, its like who did they vote for 4 to 8 years ago and well they repeat it year after year. They stick to there ideology. Is McCain the best the republicans can do? No, but he'll just have to do for now, McCain thought his career was over, but he's seemed to pull through. If Romney was Methodist, Romney would be the Republican nominee hands down.
Prediction: McCain/Huckabee ticket : Neocons for McCain as Pres./Bible thumping Conservatives for Huckabee as V.P., Tickets screams best of both worlds in the Republican Ideology. Huckabee can win the south for McCain. This Duo will outdo Obama. A season Statesman and former governor will trample the Junior Senator..
Prediction: If Obama gets the nomination: We're looking at a Republican in office for the next 4 years. Dont get me wrong, I think Obama has some good politics and Hillary lacks his charisma among the voters of all genders or race, but I just wouldnt wanna lose the race for the white house. WAR DOGS fight better under WAR CONDITIONS politically speaking, Hillary can hang against McCain and The Republican machine, because Bill knows the old school political machines in washington. Bill can rip into McCain all the way to Bush. And I dont see Obama being Able to do that. Fairy Tales dont exist in DC, its a dog eat dog world and the democrats may be wearing milk bone underwear if they aint careful.

Speaking of boats sinking, are you part of the Dist.40 Swift Boat Committee ambushing Pena? I didn't intend to fray from the dist.40 race, it's just not very interesting at this point. A whole lot of finger pointing and false accusations doesnt make it political issues. I felt The city gripes and the presidential elections were more important at this point. I understand Mr. Saenz is in mourning and I respect that and feel others should do as well. Mr. Saenz is a fine man in the community, but leave it to politics to magnify one's life. That being said I am getting off the dist.40 subject. And as for Edinburg News, they cast stones when they are the ones living in a glass house. What does a son have to do with a man's work? Do you know what your dr, surgeon, dentist, attorney, judge, etc there sons do? I really seriously doubt that very much. Again a whole lot of finger pointing and dead end accusations doesnt make it political issues. Seems to me that those accusations are the KICKINGS OF A DROWNING MAN enews, not a boat.
Taking the $50,000 is what is sinking the boat for Aaron Pena. And as for E-News? They bring up a lot more then just his son.

Let me try to answer some of those. The lighting issue east University will be fixed. The state will be starting the road widening east 107 to expressway this year. Along with the new road will be new strret lights. As for Alamo Draft, please understand that the center is held by a private developer. We can only ask to speed things up. Again let me say that the EDC has not put any money in that project. As for the buildings east of town, I have asked that our code enforcement keep an eye out for any buildings that may be unsafe. I know, I know the way they look. We could take the paint and lumber to their door step but we can't make them paint.
Social Club, Rodz,Los Lagos don't have an answer for that. I go to Lagos myself to play golf and eat lunch. This might surpise you but city hall is on schedule. Projects this size take an easy 18 months. Hope this has helped.
I think you are on point on Obama and the Latino/Hispanic vote. Cultural issue, though he could still get the young vote, he will have trouble with the older vote.
As for a McCain/Huckabee ticket, Yuk. Not that it is not possible, it is just frightening. But it would appease the fascist I mean conconservative "base" somewhat. Now that Romney is gone, they have time to get the ticket in line. At 72 and the stress of this job, the VP is going to be a more important issue on the Republican ticket
Going to be hard to get improvement in that area since it is privately held and the investment in these times would be rough on any business.
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA seems to be living up to his middle name. He just doesn't seem to know WHEN TO PULL OUT. C'mon Obama it was great hoopla while it lasted and the best you can do for your party is move aside and let Clinton take it to McCain.
What kind of comment was that about? Why should Obama step aside. Cause Aaron Pena is supporting Hillary? Is that why your with her? Does Hillary know about the $50,000 Aaron took from a Republican?

Get off the hate boat already, Clinton will no doubt take it to Obama, and Pena is surely gonna take it to Saenz along with the Republican 50,000. How bout them apples. Yep you heard right, it is what it is now quit your pitter patter and start living with the presumed outcome. Dont know why you have to hate Pena and Clinton so much, are you getting paid to do so? C'mon pal as a spectator one can tell you a thing or two about possible outcomes to a competition, now whether you want to except the possible outcomes or not is just plain stubborn. listen, obama is popular with young people, but they don't show up to vote. Hillary is popular with older folks, who DO vote.
Aaron Pena has name recognition. Good or bad, there are three generations of Aaron Penas. Ask anybody if they know who Eddie Saenz is, and they look at you glassy eyed. Eddie is not as popular as he and enews thinks he is.
Again, Aaron Pena will lose. You all have no idea what is coming.

The District 40 race is pretty much up to 2 things:
Grassroots and experience, which candidate has more grassroots within the districts' communities and which candidate has had more success in there experiences of leadership.
Many harp the various contracts mr. saenz ever acquired with many municipalities did so through Compadrismo. Much of the new loop subcontracting work has been earmarked for Saenz's firm due to none other than a county judge/compadre of Eddie's cooperation. Is that considered success in leadership or just flat out politica and compadrismo at its rawest form? How do you measure success in what mr. saenz has done, he sits on boards that share an interest in the businesses he owns right? Of course, so what would make being elected State Rep of the dist. 40 any different? If elected State Rep of dist. 40, he will sit on various committees that will serve the interest of YEP YOU GUESSED IT, his business interests along with those of his buddies' interests. That my friends isnt leadership, its RAPE, RAPE of the tax paying citizen. Its an orchestrated well organized and well oiled machine that spins out millions of dollars in contracts and it serves as a troff for the political friends to reap great dividens while the taxpayer living pay check to pay check gets to foot the bill.
Lets not confuse leadership to compadrismo!
If you want proof all municipal contracts ever awarded to Saenz is in some way at the hands of a political friend of eddies. They're all public record, just look them up. When eddie gives money to your cause or campaign, its not because he likes you or thinks you're a friend, its because in some form or fashion you are going to return the favor 10 fold so that he may count on your vote when it comes time to get awarded a certain contract. We have a card reader here predicting Pena will lose? Can you give the winning lotto numbers too? How about the Cowboys, how successful will they be next season? These are some of the few questions that may arise when there is a tarot card reader or some enlightened one in the area.
Pena losing is analyzed by which political analyst? Is it CNN? In what poll is he losing? Zogby? Gallup? Harris? Please clarify your sources.

Having Obama thumb his nose at those in power is great for TV, but imagine what that begins. That means if Obama got elected, that ANY child regardless of race or gender could one day become PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. IMAGINE THAT FOR ONE MINUTE, IS IT POSSIBLE? Remember what I mentioned earlier, that every American President has had some lineage connection to that of the English Monarch right, WELL THEN WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN THE ENGLISH MONARCH? NOT A DAMN THING! THE SAME FAMILY HAS RULED THAT KINGDOM FOR AGES, AND THIS COUNTRY IS JUST A SPIN OFF OF THAT COUNTRY. I don't know, I am a cynic by nature, but you make it sound hopeless that change can occur. I guess I still have a flicker of hope.
As for substance, I have heard almost nothing from any of these people.
I don't know that Hispanics have been "disenfranchised” by the Obama campaign as much as we might have disenfranchised ourselves. The crabs in a bucket analogy comes to mind.
Martin Luther King was not a hero to the Hispanic people during his life, nor is it a major consequence if he is honored by a road or school or other symbols her in the Valley. We are not, as a rule tolerant of others cultures, skin colors or religions, that have suffered repression, because we see and compare our own burdens as greater if not more significant. There seems to be a sort of competitiveness about the whole issue, which allows all minorities to be divided and conquered. True there are issues that divide us, but there are so many more that we hold in common.
On experience, if that is the key then is it the number of terms in the senate: McCain; if it is being governor: Bush(blah); if it is marriage to a president and a governor then it is Hillary Clinton; if it is the shoes of a minority then it is Obama and if it is gender, depending on your preference, anyone or no one but Hillary Clinton. Clearly if it skin color (or name preference), anyone but Obama. I don't hold much in the argument of experience because it is the people that surround the president that truly make the administration: Bush is a key example of that in the negative. We end up comparing these candidates and presidents in the past. The Republicans all wanted to be Reagan incarnate and the Democrats want to be Jack Kennedy.
Both of which lacked what might be termed experience for what is likely the toughest job in the world.
I don’t believe in the Wall either, I think it is purely racial and has nothing to do with security. It is a form of protectionism much like trade protectionism. But, in my mind, it is not like segregation that we had both for blacks and Hispanics in the very recent past.
For my cynicism, I question the pandering for the Hispanic vote. Many have given us lip service, but what have they done. The Clintons have come to the Valley more than most, but to do what. Don’t get me wrong, I think she would or will be a great president.
Ringmaster, I think you don't give the voters enough credit when you say Obama will not have a chance. Obama has what it takes to beat McCain. Look at this weekend: he won primaries in 4 more states, and Hillary's campaign manager is looking for a new job. Obama has "big mo," momentum, and that's an almost impossible thing to defeat.
The best thing about Obama is he represents a new direction for America. The last couple of decades have been Bush-Clinton-Bush. With Hillary we get another Clinton. It's like a tag team, back and forth.
What if a candidate were judged not by the color of his skin, but the content of his character? That wouldn't be so bad, would it.

First, I am not bickering about who is better equipped, I am refuting that Obama is not equipped. You are right that Clinton is the more insider in Washington, but that also presents problems with regard to what she may be able to get done because of her alignment with some interests. I am not anti-Clinton, I just question why I or other Hispanics should be so vehemently anti-Obama.
You are right that the controversy regarding Blacks vs White has been the overriding theme of civil rights.
I agree with you further because there was actual slavery in the Caribbean, South America and Mexico, condoned by the Church and dominated by the Europeans.
However, I don't agree the you can fairly compare the Economic horrors of the "Third World" in which many of our cultural and biological families reside with actual slavery. The ownership of ones family, future, past and present by another person: it is very different.
Evidently, being an insomniac, I see more Save the Children commercials, many showing the conditions in parts of Latin America. Much of the oppression and deplorable conditions they suffer is at the hands of their own countrymen (albeit tainted and conditioned with the help of US policy and history...give us a dictator that is friendly and do what you wish with your people mentality).
When you say "we Hispanics" you are leaving out those with Black heritage as well as Spanish. I think you are wrong to make the protests of the black people somehow anti-Hispanic. The laws and bills which help change Civil Rights did so for all of us.
As for the Celebrity aspect, while I think that is a non-issue, I believe Ms. Jolie has also adopted an oriental child, there was just less controversy because the parents didn't extort money after the adoption. And since we don’t have media appointed national "leaders” there is no one to cover the events like Jackson or others. You should note that with regard to the Fence litigation, it is not any of our so called Hispanic or Latinos leading the fight, it is the TRLA. Why not MALDEF or LULAC or some other acronym, I don’t know. Though the Farm Workers are there and so is the South Texas Civil Right Project, still no national or even regional spokesperson.
I also don’t agree that you can compare efforts to feed people that are the victims of drought and civil war to those that are the victims of corporate greed and governmental corruption and ineptness. WASHINGTON — A prominent civil rights leader has told the Democratic National Committee that refusing to seat delegates from Florida and Michigan would disenfranchise both states' minority communities.
In a Feb. 8 letter to DNC Chairman Howard Dean, NAACP chairman Julian Bond expressed "great concern at the prospect that million of voters in Michigan and Florida could ultimately have their votes completely discounted." Refusing to seat the states' delegations could remind voters of the "sordid history of racially discriminatory primaries," he said.
The DNC penalized Michigan and Florida for moving their primaries to earlier dates in violation of party rules. Both states were stripped of their delegates, and the party's presidential candidates signed a pledge not to campaign in either state. Florida lost all 210 delegates, including its superdelegates; Michigan, 156.
Since then, facing the prospect of a drawn-out delegate battle with Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign has pushed hard for both states' delegations to be seated. Clinton won Florida's primary Jan. 29 and Michigan's Jan. 15, but was the only candidate to appear on the Michigan ballot after the other candidates removed their names.
In an interview, Bond said the NAACP had taken no position in the race between Clinton and Obama and would not endorse either candidate. He sent the letter on behalf of the voters in Michigan and especially Florida, where the Republican-controlled legislature and governor changed the state's primary date.
"It struck me as making the voters, including minority voters in Florida particularly, victims of the Republican legislature in Florida. I wanted to get Chairman Dean to find some way to rectify the situation," Bond said.
The DNC has said it would allow both states to hold a different contest, probably a caucus, that would comply with party rules. Either state can also appeal the penalty to the DNC credentials committee, which will not meet again until this summer.

CHILL DUDE? Ok so now we have surfers trying to call shots around here. Look kid if the dialogue on this blog doesnt appeal to you seek greener pastures. That being said, we live in a country where all that is written isnt always what people consider to be fact or appealing. Why so amusing you ask? well for example on early voting we have some of the poorest people being herded like cattle to voting polls, some are paid a measly wage to sit, stand or walk out in the hot Texas weather and voice there cheers for a particular person they probably have no clue as to what that candidate's platform is. Now how amusing is that, its disturbing to say the least. EXPLOITATION AT ITS WORST, some of these people cant afford to volunteer there time doing such free work, they should be working earning a living and making ends meet. Now now now, before some political jar head gets on there soap box about being politically correct or INSENSITIVE, just witness a few things.
Witness the people holding the signs, walking the streets, and cheerleading at the polls yelling there lungs out. Who are they, yes sometimes the candidates join in for a while for a photo opt.or for a short period. But the majority of the time its people who have no luxury of volunteering there time rather than working. Oh you say they get paid for that sort of work, I'll quickly say thats illegal and unethical on a campaign. Unethical or illegal? what are those words here in hidalgo county, tu tas crazy! Politiqueras dont exist around here! wink wink. Candidates are just like sheephearders herding the sheep around his or her campaign exploiting the poor and disadvantaged. But hey they get a free meal and drinks you claim, but its the loyalty thats being purchased along with the vote and thats the sad exploitation, and people talk about how the proposed wall will do an injustice to those people seeking a better life. Now coyotes will take further advantage of these less fortunate people you say, not to worry, we have politicians ready to exploit the hell out of them.
