EDINBURG POLITICS
"I'm sick and tired of the delays of the old administration and we need to complete these stalled projects now!" That quote was that of the newly Re-elected Mayor right? Years later, wullah! we've got everything complete in our neck of the woods right? WRONG! C'mon Ochoa saved the Elder's tax freeze, hooray! He gave all the adult daycare centers new bingo cards, he loaded up the so called political strategists aka politiqueras with plenty of money, and all he did was take his old look and style and grew some hair. Well if it isn't putting lipstick on a pig and calling it anything but a pig. So who's next now on the ol recruitment list for our enamored mayor who's done so much for our city? He's managed to recruit the likes of political novice Gus Garcia and we've seen what a fine questionairre he's been as of late, not to mention mr. ochoa's marionnette dolls don't finish there. NO Sir, he's got a few strings he pulls over on the school board too, Robert Pena too has a few strings at Mr. Ochoa's disposal. Now we have a fresh duo of yes men willing to attach those strings up to Mr.Ochoa and make a fine Marionette cortet the bunch of YES yelling choir boys. You see, from what I gather is that Mr. Ochoa and his group of lets call them "YES" has a nice ring to it. The Group YES, or Operation YES, or The YES Boys. Either name makes for a good laugh right? Well not exactly, the last laugh is on our behalf, yep you guessed it, they're really getting the last laugh on all this. We are the taxpayers that are allowing such tactics to take place in the first place. So are we to blame? you bet we are. Freshly annointed newbies will attempt to unseat those council members now in office for reasons well, WHO REALLY CARES right. I mean cmon its Mr. Ochoa and his faction coming for those seats, so does he really need to give us any reasons as to why who chooses to unseat anyone or take control of the city and school governing entities? Nope not at all, he's got plenty of family, a hate smut campaigning blog, and plenty of favors to call in for his personal gain. So you and I really have no say in this up coming election or do we? Well its no mystery on just how much this administration has failed to get new projects done, started or even moved on. But is that all apart of a political strategy? Of course, do you remember the first line of this blog, well that was ochoa and gus stating their claim as to why they were the men for the job, because of stalled projects many believed to have an ochoa hand in. Now who's to blame, well thats neither here nor there, so with all the accusations aside in regards to the old administration well out the door two went and now you would of thought that things were to be worked out so much smoother right? well name me a project mr. ochoa and gus have given life to? completed? name anything these two have done in the years since being elected? The veteran councilman which most know already speaks his mind and is less likely to kneel or be a YES boy like ochoa's boy"no"wonder. Now am I wrong? well time will tell, but this I assure you if you research ochoa's decade stay on the council and take any one term of that and compared it to the previous mayor record, one with economical experience will clearly note that both differ significantly and that one raised the bar on our city's infastructure aesthetics. Lets base our votes on proof not feelings or personal relations. One mayor gave us one failed project after another and had the audacity to return only to get elected and stay put. Now is he waiting to see if his newly minted yes crooners get elected? You bet your sweet taxes he is. You see in order for this cock to rule the hen house his elder veteran outspoken councilman at some point adversary needs to be sent packing along with the only female on the council to make room for You guessed it, FOR SURE VOTES IN HIS FAVOR. Then Ochoa will have no adversary, but one who most will already know to sway in this unbalanced council. Now do you think I have an ounce of animosity towards the new boys coming to drum up votes for their boss? NO not at all, but like the old saying goes, "I don't want your house, I want the land it sits on." Ochoa can care less about these 2 boys he's recruited, rather he wants their loyal vote. Is that a sad scenario? No, its politics and politics has a way of making some people who are in the system a great reward. So for those skeptics out their or loyal ochoa followers that bother to read this and are in serious denial or in disgust, relax I leave you to research for yourself on the many failed attempts and projects your enamored mayor made in his reckless political past. And it is also a fact that he's made no secret as to RECRUIT simple minded kids that allow him their vote in exchange for carrying their political campaign. You see most of these simple minded boys have no clue about politics, they're business people who at best have families in this city, but its the more savvy life long politician in ochoa that affords them a political faction, so in return they remain loyal. Again AT BEST THESE BOYS HAVE EXTENDED FAMILIES IN THIS CITY, but the political ties come from OCHOA. The strings, cables, pullies, and hoists are being assembled as we speak and the show tickets are being printed, we shall witness how well the marionette cortet performs with ochoa at the helm. Win or lose, you can bet Ochoa will still be going around recruiting the likes of YES boys or shall I say men to fulfill his political aspirations.

The new edinburg city hall over budget some 10 million dollars. Now going on it's 9th change order. Ochoa is the mayor. A mayor conducts the meetings. And a mayor only votes only if a tie has occurred. Your puppets are the one with the majority. Your puppets are the ones with the subcontracts. Your puppets are the one that have stalled all of these projects. And you want to blame Joe and Gus? Come on! The majority on the city council have failed you, me and the taxpayers of the city!
Joe Ochoa and his 2 time loser buddy Eddie Saenz have been the ruin of Edinburg. Because of their brand of politics we are a laughing stock in city circles. We are of the rank of Elsa, Pharr or Alamo. Kick the bums out!
Hey 1:48pm, I guess PR hit a nerve huh? Either way you slice it, nothing has been done since Joe and Gus have come on board. PR's point is right on because his cronies running for the City Commission are running under the same arguments that Joe and Gus did two years ago about there being a bunch of stalled projects. Name one thing Joe and Gus have initiated and implemented. All they have done is trash and try to delay all the projects the previous administration of Garcia began.

do we need to get into specifics here? supersplash, glasscock brewery, albertsons, los lagos (which the city had to take over), and the list goes on under ochoa's watch. how many failed projects under mayor garcia? in fact under mayor garcia theres now a new police station, water plant, city hall, city library, fire sub station, new corporate stores ie jc penny, new wal mart, lacks, etc. like janet jackson's song says: what have you done for me lately? ochoa has only had family benefit. those that own rodz, ochoa nephews. ochoa's sister runs plenty of adult daycares. hector casas owns the social club and just about every city event is held there and he's an ochoa buddy. this ochoa faction even had the balls to run eddie saenz again against pena. ochoa just seems to be doing what p.r. wrote, waiting for his yes dudes to come on board. its easy for ochoa to approve change orders on the new city hall just to make the former mayor look bad. p.r. keep up the blogging, we appreciate your take on things here in edinburg.
ochoa gave johnny rodriguez $700 bucks for the campaign and went on record stating that johnny had a better vision than that of incumbant council member alma garza. now does vision account more than voting record and experience? dude what is wrong with this ochoa guy? p.r., you're right, puro yes dudes.
That's $700 reported; there's a lot more where that came from. Eddie Saenz is pouring some serious dough as well.
Eddie Saenz spent a million dollars in each of his losing campaigns but most of it is in unreported cash. Remember the 40 plus vans in the Delta area and the hundreds of politiqueras.
What does Eddie "two time loser" Saenz have to gain by pouring money into these races?
What do the Palacios have to gain pumping in money to both candidates?
A two time loser without a penny to his name years ago is blowing through money like a drunken sailor at a nickel whorehouse. Follow the money!
Political Ring!
You're back! I thought you had gone the way of Earn my Vote and just posting comments from readers.
You make some interesting points in your latest posting, and some of them are pretty accurate, but some are a bit off the mark, especially when it comes to providing cover for the political majority in control in Edinburg.
You should skewer both sides, not just to be fair, but to also increase your audience. Otherwise, you are not doing your job being a watchdog for the community. Let's get to it!
I noticed you haven't touched the school bond issue in Edinburg. That's a pretty hot issue, with a lot of confusion and misinformation being spread by both sides. What did you think about the school district scheduling a student concert on the night of early voting at the polling site? How about a little bit of outrage from you on that manipulation of public resources to influence an election?
Anyhow, welcome back. Hope all is well with you.
"8:35 AM,
You should skewer both sides,
I noticed you haven't touched the school bond issue in Edinburg. That's a pretty hot issue, with a lot of confusion and misinformation being spread by both sides."
Well let me attempt to answer some the topics you addressed while blogging on here, again its an attempt not trying to aim here but an attempt nevertheless. (gee i wonder which anal blogger will give me crap about the last word)
SKEWERING BOTH SIDES: are you familiar with the Movie, the book, and word "RONIN" well thats kinda the key word here on this blog. We really don't care to side with anyone in particular, but when one side starts getting out of line with the people, well then we as a community need to draw the line at some point. Now if I blamed ochoa in my past posts, well he's an elected official thats been in office since most young voters were in diapers and I feel we have the right to do so when an error in judgement has been made. I support my statements with proof. Now that being said, I suppose you're insinuating those who oppose Ochoa, fine, Cisneros-Johnson, well you saw the news, that was a classic view of former politicians gone wild. Need we beat that dead horse some more. Andy Rios, need I mention anything with that one. Poor judgement used when supporting candidates I suppose.
SCHOOL BOND ISSUE: Waste of Time, Money, and a shameful ploy they did by using children so called plays to get the parents in to vote. DAMN! what next a soup kitchen to get the homeless to vote too. Ok that was some sarcasm to illustrate just how advantageous people can get. Do kids really get the benefits, I really dont think so in this case those who stand to gain are those people selling the land, doing the construction (cough cough PSJA Contractor FBI indictments) Now I know once some knuckle heads read this, they're gonna cry bloody murder and that I can care less about the children, but I just feel the exploitation of children to get some lousy votes from people having problems keeping their bills on during this rough economical time is shrewd like tactics of the corporate world's price gauging. They do it, because they can.
CONFUSION & MISINFORMATION: Again refer to corporate world tactics of price gauging. The districts employees were out in full swing that day "politico style" trying to drive up the sales vis a vis capitalist style, which under any other circumstances is fine and the American way, but lets not have to use the children to do that. I mean cmon you aint selling tickle me elmos here, they're asking for 111 million and change. How big is our school population that we're competing with brownsville school district surpassing mcallen. Well thats if you're not counting Mcallen's IB School. South of Edinburg will soon have a private catholic High school as well, so that'll make it like what 5 high schools in this town with no economical boom such as mcallen's. I guess Ochoa's buddy the engineer needs some much needed contracts to regain what he lost against pena, not to mention the shirt he now needs to replace. I have a theory in politics, when you have some charming folks in office that snake charm the people be wary of plenty of Construction going on, because Construction budgets can be so easily padded for personal gain. Hint Hint Eloy Pulido and Alcatraz on cibolo rd. Rumors speculated that while in office that land that Economedes sits on was purchased from a relative of his. And not to mention when he got wind that Wal mart was aiming to build a new one north of edinburg, he jumped on a piece of property with a texaco located on it, but later he found out that investment wasnt what he planned it would be. So yeah, be wary of some of these charmers, they're expensive to keep in office.
Your use of nevertheless was well done and properly placed. Keep up the good work.
Why we're in this so called recession?
Here's an IDEA, do you want a name to blame all the Nation's economic problems. Well here's the name,,,,drum roll please: US...
No restraint on high fuel cosuming automobiles. i.e. hummers, suvs, soccer mom vans looking like abram tanks.
No restraint on development, we keep knocking over nature everytime we decide to build more man made things. i.e. new neighborhoods, malls, stores, houses, etc.
No restraint on travel, for business, leisure or both. Air, water, and land travel never stops.
No restraint on eating habits, we here in America have the largest child population facing obesity health problems. i.e. the combos, buffets, and super sizing everything nowadayss kills children.
No restraint on wanting to spend money daily in form of charge, credit, check, cash, debit, etc. i.e. sales tax is progressive and therefore kills the hourly employee's wages. Not to mention all the sin taxes to boot on smokes, alcohol, and spirits. oh and the club scenes aren't slowing down. You can get charged $1 a beer on monday and that same beer will sell for $5 on saturday and nobody protests that.
People are creatures of habit and will continue to do so, so who's really to blame when a supply and demand issue caters what we demand of world supplies. Toyotas keep selling, drugs keep selling, booze keeps selling, sex keeps selling, drug dealers die or get busted they dont go out of business. Gee I wonder why? Ford, hummer, mcdonalds, burger king, cadillac, chevy, GM, shell, exxon, etc havent gone out of business and they never will, because we DEMAND that they supply us. We are consuming so quickly that is why the sellers of everything can do what they please with the prices because we are all addicted to some product or service. For example let one of these items go off for a week in your household and see how you hold up: mobile phone, computer, cable, satellite, light, water, or auto. we consume too much...
So the problem is not a "woe" as many like to call it? It's just that we are getting to a point where it costs more for us to live high on the hog.
There's nothing wrong with charging 5 bucks for a beer because of the day of the week. Business is not to blame. WE are, as you so appropriately stated.
Restraint belongs in the hands of the consumer, not a nanny state government.
One of the latest headlines in regards to oil companies polluting some city's water supply. My only question is after reading that, why isn't Edinburg SUING TIDE or BAROID?

About a dozen of the nation's largest oil companies agreed to pay $423 million in cash to settle litigation with 153 public water providers in 17 states that sued over groundwater contaminated by the gasoline additive MTBE.
The companies also agreed to pay cleanup costs that arise in the next 30 years. Terms of the deal were submitted for court approval Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York.
The settlement is the largest to date in a case involving MTBE, an abbreviation for the oil-refining byproduct methyl ...
